Featuring Jolie — A Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Quilter!
Hi friends – One month until Bloggers’ Quilt Festival! Have you decided which quilt you will share? I’m still deciding too!
1. When did you begin quilting?
A couple of years ago, a gal at work purchased a new sewing machine and needed 4 people to take a quilting class so I said, sure! I took the class, and enjoyed it but then never really thought much about it. I was really frustrated that I had such a hard time with the binding and that may have scared me away too. Last fall, my DH (a hunter) was away every weekend in November and the bug just bit me! I set up shop in the kitchen, put my ironing board in front of the oven, and went to work. I cranked out one quilt top each weekend. I had such great fun and am a new quilter, but will be a quilter for the rest of my life.
2. Why do you quilt?
I enjoy projects, and lately my projects have been quilts. I have made a couple of quilts for my nieces, for myself and I just really love seeing the new style of quilting, known as modern or contemporary. It isn’t old fashioned or grandma like, it’s fresh, it’s colorful and being a part of it invigorates me!
3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
There are a couple that I believe are important. First one, is press, press, press. A good press in every seam really does produce a much nicer finished project. Second one is to always put in a new needle for every new project.
4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt?
I had purchased Modern Basics and flipped through the pages dozens of times and one quilt just kept catching my eye. I liked that it was simple and modern but not boring. Another factor that weighs heavily on me is the pattern. I want a pattern that goes together quickly and doesn’t take me 1-2 hours to make one block. This one fit the bill!
5. Do you sew other things?
I don’t. I like quilting and I don’t want to branch out, yet. I don’t even know how to sew a zipper but I see all these cute bags all over the place so I might possibly tackle that this year.
6. Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I just started a blog and would love for you to stop by and comment. I am so grateful for the online quilting community. The inspiration is just fantastic. I go to flickr every week just to check out new photos and am in awe at the lovely quilts everyone makes.
Thank you Amy, for hosting Blogger’s Quilt Festival, and letting me talk about my quilts.
Thank you for sharing your quilts with us Jolie! I love your version of Tumbling Cubes!
Happy weekend –
