Hi there! Today’s featured quilter is Sue, from Sue Daurio’s Quilting Adventures! Sue was nominated for Favorite Baby Quilt, and I think the picture of her grandson on the quilt is adorable. Click over to see that picture. I hope you enjoy getting to know Sue better!

1. When did you begin quilting?
Must be about 15 years ago now.  I needed something for my bed and couldn’t find anything I liked, so I made my own.  Have been hooked ever since.
2. Why do you quilt?
Because I can’t stop :)  At first it was for decorating.  Then everyone had a quilt on their bed.  Then it was gifts, birthday’s, weddings, etc.  Hmm, everyone had a quilt.  It just became fun to create.  Now everyone has a couple of quilts and I do a lot of sewing for donation quilts, just trying to send quilty hugs to those who need them.  It’s just so relaxing and energizing to create something.
3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
Silk pins.  I have such a hard time pinning until someone told me about silk pins. They are so thin, and go in the fabric so easily and smoothly.  Wonderful.  Take them out right before the needle get to them, don’t sew over them. Since they are so thin, if your needle hits it, it may go in the machine (ya, I learned that the hard way).  I don’t often pin but when I do, I use the silk pins.

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt? (above)
My daughter was expecting her first baby.   We were shopping in Chicago at Quiltology and she fell in love with some owl fabric.  Guess who chose Owl’s for the nursery theme.   I thought about it for months and just wasn’t sure what to do with owls.  She found an artist which such adorable pictures.  Those were used as the basis for the applique.  My daughter and I worked on this project together.  She traced and cut for all the applique pieces and I sewed.  What fun.    We couldn’t wait to start so we have a girl version in progress.  When we found out she was having a boy, we were so excited and that one was finished first.  When I finish the girl quilt, it will be donated to project linus locally.
5. Do you sew other things?
Not really, I tried making some bags and the tablet covers, but I like the big quilts.
6. Anything else you would like us to know about you?
My passion is really the machine quilting.  I love piecing don’t get me wrong.  But getting lost in a quilt top and taking finishing it is my all time favorite thing.  I’ve even planned quilts just for the quilting!!!  I also volunteer to quilt tops for QOV – it’s always fun to quilt someone’s quilt.   And if collecting fabric weren’t enough you should see my thread collection – yep I’m a thread junky there’s no doubt about it.
