Six Years & 1400 Posts Later. . .

Posted on March 17th, by Amy in give away, Me, My Fabric. 332 comments

It’s time for a giveaway! (this really is my 1400th post!)

Honestly, I’m so thankful for the community, friends, encouragement, and inspiration that I’ve found online – had I not started blogging six years ago, I’m not sure what I would be up to right now!

Six Years & 1400 Posts Giveaway - AmysCreativeSide.com

I love being creative and sharing my love of fabric, and beautiful design with all of you here. All the opportunities that I have worked toward over the last six years seem to have culminated last week, when sample yardage for my own fabric line arrived on my doorstep!

Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis - AmysCreativeSide.com

I set to work cutting up fabric for the patterns I’ve been planning, above is a quick peek at a few of the prints I designed for Moda (pinch me!). You’ll notice the fabric bears the same name as my most recent book, Modern Neutrals, my love of neutrals has become a bit of an obsession for me – I can’t seem to get enough of them, and really love having my own geometric prints to sew with!

Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis - AmysCreativeSide.com

I currently have three quilts in progress, and one quilt top finished – I’m dying to share the patterns with you, but that’s going to wait until I have them finished up completely.

**The giveaway is all the books pictured at the top of the post to one luck winner – Modern Basics, Modern Basics II, Modern Neutrals, Set the Table, Kitchen Stitches, Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe, and We Love Color – books that I’ve written, or contributed a project to. And some bits of Modern Neutrals fabric :)

Leave me a comment to win, tell me how long you’ve been blogging (or reading blogs), the winner will be announced on Monday, March 24.

Good Luck!

Amy

Have been following your podcast for the last several months, and have actually been listening to the older podcasts. Really enjoy your “inside the industry” perspective. I’m thinking of making my nephew a neutral quilt as a wedding present, so I’ve been looking at your books for ideas.

Your book Modern Neutrals was a great acquisition for me. I am currently working to make the In Motion quilt which once I saw it, I knew I had to make it.

I’m loving the neutral fabrics with Little Black Dress by Moda being right at the top of the list. I look forward to working with your new line of neutral fabrics. They look delightful.

The quilt blog world rocks. Kudos to those who have them. There is a wealth of information and talent available to all of us quilters & crafters because of blogs.

I started my blog in June of 2011. My intention was to document the creation of my own sewing room in the basement of my home. I have found that blogland is a great place to connect with others with similar interests. Thanks so much for the chance to win your great books.

Your own fabric! That must be such a joy to sew with! I’ve been reading sewing blogs for a few years now and decided to start my own blog about 7 months ago now. I love all the opportunities to join with other sewers/quilters. I recently started a little blogs quilt bee and it’s great! Only 7 months in and I too wonder how my sewing would be different without the blog! Congrats on a great blog Amy!! Lou

I started listening to podcasts a couple of months ago at work. Most of them are all quilting related. I have a blog that I was doing before I started back to work full-time in Jan 2013. I keep saying I’m going to get back to it, but I also have fibromyalgia and the energy is just not there after working all day and trying to get a little sewing/quilting done that I love doing. I love listening youre podcasts, and reading your blog with it. Keep up the good work. BTW, LOVE your new fabric line.

    Lynette says:

Thanks for the chance for that wonderful set of books! I started blogging Jan 2011 after “watching” for almost a year. It was a way to fill in a huge hole that gaped when my cousin died – she and I were quilting budding across the country through Facebook and the post. Blogging was the perfect antidote to my sudden quilting loneliness! I’ve met so many friends, found amazing inspiration and motivation, and greatly increased my skills. I love coming to your blog. :)

I see some great fabrics in there, congrats on the fabric line!

  55. 55

    Hey Amy,
I listen to and love your Quiltcast podcast. Your banter with April is both enjoyable and informative. I have been reading blogs for about 2 years now, but do not blog myself. I want you to know that I have and LOVE the book “Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe”. I made the quilt top Across the Quad for a upcoming HS grad and I know she will love it. Now, to decide how to quilt it?….I would love to win those other books as well and give a friend my current book. The Modern Quilt movement intrigues me, although I have 3 non-sewing daughters and 2 of them that they love the traditional blocks instead – go figure.

What an amazing milestone! I have been blogging since the summer of 2009 for family and then I started a public quilting journal in 2010. Congrats and thanks for sharing all you do!

I’ve been blogging for about 10 years and reading blogs for about the same time. I love the inspiration that all the other blogs give me. It expands your community of knowledge and inspiration. When you aren’t feeling particularly creative you can always find someone online that has their mojo working and it gets the creative juices flowing. Last fall my business celebrated its 10 year anniversary… and blogs/blogging have been a big part of that.

Hi Amy, I have been blogging for 7 full years now and love it – I am totally hooked on blogging and have learned more about the quilt world on line then I have in my little corner of the world which doesn’t even have a local quilt shop – the books all look interesting! I love to incorporate modern with traditional as I am more of a traditionalist but kind of mix the two at times.

What a fantastic giveaway! I started my quilting journey with you at the ORB quilt a long in 2009. The zig zag quilt you hosted was my second ever quilt! I started my blog shortly afterward to be connected with all my new on-line quilting friend and share my growth. I then did a sampler quilt a long you hosted on your blog that really helped me grow in my skills. Now I’ve gotten away from blogging as I’ve switched over to instagram (Baileygirl_5 there) for most of my progress pictures. After six years I guess I’ve said it all … I used to follow a ton of blogs but that has also fell away with the demise of google reader and my inability to leave comments from my iPad. I mostly follow other quilters on IG and use pinterest to find blog posts about quilts I love and tutorials. Congrats on your fabric line and they are all beautiful. Can’t wait to be able to buy some!

    Hi Amy,

I started quilting in…2008, I think? I started blogging a couple of months later, and a couple of months after THAT, you had your very first Bloggers Quilt Festival in 2009, and I put the third quilt I ever made in it, called “Saucy Divo”. It was, in part, the encouragement I had from you personally as well as your readers that set me on the road I am today.

Thanks for that, and for the chance to win all these great books. “You’ve come a long way, baby!”

    Congratulations. :)

I discovered blogging around 2008 I think. I had a yard sale and had a few quilts out there, store bought ones, when my neighbor from accross the street came over to see. She saw the quilts and starting telling me all about her wonderful daughters blog and the blogging world. She even came over the next day with the web address for her daughters blog for me, psiquilt was the first blog I ever read and it got me hooked.

I’ve been blogging since December 2011. It was that time after Christmas when the family are around and my daughter would ask me yet again “Why don’t you blog about your quilting and crafting?” This time I had no excuses (I’d made a few in the past) and so I got to it. I had a week off work so it was time to learn something new for the New Year and I did it. I can honestly say, I’ve never looked back. I love to write the posts and read all of the other lovely blogs out there for inspiration. The international blogging family is amazing!

I just looked and found out I began blogging as a journal about my health in October of 2007. I started reading about other peoples quilts and then a little about mine. I entered your Blogger’s Quilt Festival early and tried to respond to every entrant, but it got too big so I have for the most part moved away from it. I enter sometimes, but I liked telling the story behind my quilts, so I just started doing that more on my own blog.

    Brenda Wiseman says:

I don’t blog, but have been following blogs (intermittantly) for quite a few years. And before blogs, when I was just getting back into quilting after a major bout with chronic fatigue syndrome in the mid-nineties, I subscribed to mail-lists, the forerunner of blogs, I believe. It’s amazing what a difference computers, the internet, and then the world wide web have made to quilting. Patterns at your fingertips, fabric shopping without leaving home, knowing what’s going to be available in stores before it arrives, and I could go on and on. Back in the days of mail-lists, the big thing was block and/or fabric swaps. I must have a zillion 6″ nine-patches along with 6 1/2″ matching fabric squares (although they’ve all been played with so much it would be impossible to match them up now). I’d kind of forgotten about them — should sew them all together and make charity quilts out of them.

It’s hard to imagine 1400 distinct “letters” from you over six years to I don’t know how many followers you have. And, your celebratory giveaway is right up my alley, because what I “stash” besides fabric are books, and they play a very important part of my life. When my health keeps me from doing much, I quilt vicariously through my books and old magazines.

I’ve had to stop buying books for the most part because I ended up with a drastically reduced income six years ago when I went on disability because I could no longer work. But I can tell you that I’ve read a number of your books through our public library. (They do have more recent books than I do.) I love the peek at your modern neutrals, and the kind of patterns shown on the cover of your book of the same title.

I can’t imagine how thrilled I would be to have the entire batch of books you have written or been a part of, along with a chance to fondle some bits of your fabric. You are extremely generous, and I thank you for making this giveaway possible. I know that whoever wins will thoroughly enjoy it.

Congratulations on so many huge milestones. But your own fabric line? Wow!!! So impressed and excited for you. When it comes out I’ll be excited for me and will stock it in my shop. I’ve been blogging for several years but only recently with my quilty blog. My intensions for my blog aren’t really coming to fruition because I decided to hop on the “I really want to sell fabric” voice in my head. That leaves me busier than I anticipated and my poor blog gets neglected in spurts. Thank you for your generous giveaway!!

I’ve been sewing for almost 45 years, but only recently took up quilting over this winter. It had been both exciting & relaxing. The discovery of the vast world of quilt related blogs is mind bending! Thankfully my tablet helps let me know when there is something new to read and admire!

Congrats on your amazing run! You are certainly an inspiration to many people (including myself, of course.) Here’s to many, many more years, posts and successes!

Congrats on all your success and joy at creating a quilting and writing career from home! Your fabrics look terrific–I love geometrics. I discovered quilting blogs in late 2008 and started blogging in February 2009. It’s a truly wonderful place, blogland :). Thanks for the great giveaway, and here’s to many more books and fabric lines !!!

Congratulations! You have so many wonderful accomplishments, Amy! I wish for you that it should continue. I’ve been reading blogs for about six years and been started my blog a little over 5 years ago. But, lately, I’ve been very weak with the blogging. But, I have been reading!

Love your fabrics! I have been “visiting” blog land since 2010 and have enjoyed seeing the growth of so many bloggers through this great medium. I have a blog but don’t actively participate.

I don’t blog myself but enjoy reading so many others. I like anything associated with sewing and quilting. People are so talented. Thanks for the chance to win.

I have been reading blogs for 3 to 4 years. I started a blog and enjoyed blogging, but I don’t seem to have enough time to keep it up and do my quilting. Congratulations on your 6 years! That is a lot of work.

Congratulations on 1400 posts! That is a big accomplishment. All your effort has been worthwhile!
I started blogging in 2010, after a blogging-friend motivated me to do so. I am still active, if a little bit less then before.
