Featuring Cathy :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on March 28th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 9 comments

Happy Friday! Today’s featured quilter is Cathy from Blueberry Patch! Cathy has some great quilts to share today, and I love her use of color – I hope you enjoy getting to know Cathy better —

1. When did you begin quilting?
I actually began quilting seriously 25 years ago but stopped (kids and career) and then started again in a big way about 4 years ago.  My husband said I needed a hobby after our kids left the nest.  I took his suggestion to heart and became a very busy quilter!

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because it is so much fun and is a great stress reliever.  I work full time as an elementary school principal and quilting is something that I do as a hobby because it is so different from my work!  I love to create.  I also love the online quilting community and the community of fabulous ladies at the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild in British Columbia, Canada.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
My favorite quilting tip would have to be if you are straight line quilting, always quilt in the same direction!  I love straight line quilting and I often get asked how I avoid puckers and distortion.  Go in the same direction!

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt? (picture above)
The inspiration for the quilt I entered in the Spring Blogger’s Quilt Festival, Proverbial Sunshine, was a quilt-along hosted by Krista from Poppyprint.  We used Denyse Schmidt’s Proverbial quilt pattern and I chose to spell “You are my sunshine” on my quilt.  I made it for my husband. The song is special to us.  And doesn’t it just make you want to sing?
I entered, “It Looks Like My Garden” in the fall Blogger’s Quilt Festival. (picture below) I had always wanted to make a value quilt after reading Katie Pedersen’s blog, Sew Katie Did.  I love the explosion of color and the contrast of values.  One of my dear friend’s named the quilt when she saw it in progress on my design wall.  I grow a lot of flowers!

5. Do you sew other things?
I do sew other things.  I love making cushions, pouches and bags.  My daughter is a nurse and I make her a lot of scrub tops.  So fun!
6. Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I absolutely love fabric.  I love color!

Thank you for sharing Cathy! I’m so glad your husband encouraged you to take up quilting again!

Have a great weekend everyone –

Love your quilts… so cheerful … I find quilting an escape from my work too! What kind of fabric do you use for the nurse uniform tops.. I stopped using quilting fabrics cause I hated ironing the finished tops they wrinkled more. I think sewing quilts is more fun then clothes … keep up the good work… NONNIE … Loved the triangle quilt… inspirational.. hope to see one in my future……
