Charm Pack Cherry – from Fat Quarter Shop

Posted on February 24th, by Amy in finished quilt, review. 13 comments

Hi there! I’m excited to be part of the release of Fat Quarter Shop’s newest FREE pattern – Charm Pack Cherry!  It’s a fun, quick pattern for all those charm packs, we all seem to collect.  I pieced my sample in just an hour or so – it’s that quick!

I started with Surrounded by Love charms, and solid charms followed the simple diagrams, and had fun stitching up this cute quilt! It’s a first for me – I’d not made a valentine’s quilt before.  I machine quilted it with some double loops, swirls, and a few experimental feathers; I’m still having fun trying new things out on the long-arm!

There were a few extra charms after piecing the top, so I worked them into a corner of the back, that I plan to use as … Read More »

Twisted Log Cabin – from Quilt in a Day

Posted on February 19th, by Amy in review, work in progress. 11 comments

I was contacted by the Quilt in a Day office to see if I would be willing to try out a new ruler that Elenor Burns has produced. I can’t resist a new gadget, and said of course! I collected jelly rolls to use, since it is super jelly roll friendly, and had a blast sewing my blocks up!

Fabrics pictured : Joel Dewberry – Bungalow, and Kona Sandcastle Roll up.

I don’t always love to sew wonky blocks, preferring to have a plan, and decisions made beforehand, but I really enjoyed this project! The pattern booklet has lots of diagrams to show you exactly how to use the ruler, and all the options for layouts. It’s hard to mess this quilt up, and using jelly rolls really takes all the hard … Read More »

Don’t freak out…

Posted on February 14th, by Amy in work in progress. 3 comments

If you’ve listened to the most recent Quiltcast, you know that I had a little bit of a freak out moment last week! I looked at my calendar of deadlines, and realized that I had a number of little projects to get finished, and a couple secret projects to start. So I spent three days sewing like mad, and took this pile of pieces –

to a finished blocks, and eventually -

a finished quilt top!

I still need a great pic of the entire quilt, it’s been rainy. Rain on top of snow is a big mess…so I’ve been organizing the inside spaces, as well.

I always find I’m more able to focus on my projects, when I can find, what I need, when I … Read More »

Top 5 things to remember to do before sending your quilt to a long-arm quilter

– Send your backing

– Include your information with the quilt

– 4″ larger batting and backing, than quilt top

– Mark top of quilt top/back if you would like it specifically done

– Press whichever way makes you happy

Watch your borders, so that they don’t wave at your quilter!

Do you think computerized quilting is cheating?

I pin lots of great quilting inspiration here.

Seams Unlikely :: Review & Giveaway

Posted on February 10th, by Amy in books, review. 35 comments

Most everyone that quilts or sews knows the name Nancy Zieman, and with this book I felt like I really got to know Nancy! Seams Unlikely is a quickly paced read with lots of great insights into Nancy’s childhood, and inspirational stories of her career. Nancy wrote this book, just like she talks – at times it seemed like she was reading to me, even! In the process of writing the book Nancy interviewed family members and co-workers, that have become like family over the years, and the little bits of shared experiences were so fun to read.

Nancy shared that her lack of confidence, and introvert tendencies, were pushed aside when asked to give demonstrations as a girl in 4-H. It was in those few moments of teaching that she was truly in her element and excited … Read More »
