Monday, Monday

Posted on May 19th, by Amy in gardening, My kids. 1 Comment

Usually I feel a little whiny after a long Monday – not today! The sun was warm and bright and it was the last Monday of the school year. Just writing it makes me smile, no more Monday alarm clock, no more pestering Ella to get ready before school, we just have to make it through 3.5 more days! That is totally doable.

Yesterday I purchased dirt. My raised bed for vegetables was looking a little low, and it is warm enough at night now to support veggies – yeah! So I dumped the couple of bags I bought and mixed the compost all over and I felt like a kid playing in the mud pies we made on occasion growing up. (Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula is very rainy.) I probably wasn’t nearly … Read More »

Earlier this week I was tagged by my friend Jennifer. A round of ‘like to get to know you better.’ So here goes!

The Rules:

~The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.

~Each player answers the questions about themselves.

~At the end of the post, the player tags other people and posts their name, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

What was I doing 10 years ago?In 1998, I was a Junior in college. I met my husband that year and was extremely busy studying and working. Vanguard University was my home for 4 years, while I poured over books and made great friends.

Complete Quilt Top!

Posted on May 17th, by Amy in My kids, work in progress. 2 comments

Hi there! Just a quick post to show you the completed top. I loved putting this together – it was so fast and simple. It measures 52×78″ – not quite twin, but I am happy with it! My plan now is purchase backing fabric and batting – then get to quilting. Until then I think I will be practicing new forms of quilting – I am ready to move past the straight line quilting I have done thus far.Hope you are having a great weekend -Blessings – Amy

Early Ambitions

Posted on May 16th, by Amy in ramblings, work in progress. No Comments

Well it is before noon (mountain time) and I feel so accomplished already! What a great feeling =) I’ve been able to complete and iron all but two of my blocks for Emmalie’s quilt. I stayed up a bit later last night and got some good sewing time in – deep breath – I love those evening hours, sewing in the dark – ALL BY MYSELF. Mind you, I love sewing with Ella, we have almost finished our place mat project (pictures soon). Olivia and her mom were over last night and we worked on the binding. Now I just need to get Ella to sit down and finish it.So for the rest of my day today I need to — trim my blocks (read not a perfectionist)- sew my last two – I … Read More »

Birthday Girl

Posted on May 14th, by Amy in Celebrations, My kids. 5 comments

Happy Birthday Ella! I am so proud of my Ella girl. She is a great big sister, a super student, a good friend, and a big helper to me.

At 8 years old I can hardly believe where the time is gone! I have learned so much about being a mom with Ella, and so much about myself. I have learned that the main purpose of our children is to grow and learn in the process. So even though I don’t always do everything right, my ability to learn on the go, and God’s strength, helps me through this season of life. I love you Ella! May God continue to bless you in the coming years.Yes that is a bb gun in her hands! She enjoys the great outdoors with her daddy … Read More »

If only I had nothing else to do . . .

Posted on May 12th, by Amy in work in progress. 4 comments

I would sew all day long. =) I have been busy with my family and Ella’s Birthday (tomorrow) but I did manage to decide what to do with that set of fat quarters I bought on Friday. I have 12 coordinating prints that I am adding lots of white to, in order to make a twin size quilt for Emmalie. Amandajean has posted a few pictures of a quilt from Happy Hour – I didn’t buy the book but have figured it out – more or less. I like math, so it just takes a little time and a calculator, if possible. =)I have been cutting and here is the two blocks I made yesterday – in just a few minutes. Hopefully I will have a quilt in the … Read More »

Home Machine Quilting Show

Posted on May 10th, by Amy in random. 1 Comment

At the last minute I discovered that there was (still is today) a Quilting Show down in Salt Lake, about 45 minutes and 2 mountain passes away. I packed up Owen and asked Ella if she wanted to join us as she has been learning to quilt on a place mat that we almost have finished. She jumped at the chance and so we took off.I have been to gem faire but never a quilting show – there was so much to take in! We started by looking at the quilts that had been entered in the competition – so beautiful! I didn’t get to take pictures of every quilt (there had to be at least 200) but I think I got around 50 photographed, they were favored by Ella or myself. Here’s one of … Read More »

Mama’s Got a New Bag!

Posted on May 7th, by Amy in bag, sewing. 3 comments

I can’t believe it has been a week since I told you about my bag experiment! It has been a bit busy around here with warm weather, (we hit 73!!!) being outside with the kiddos. Love the sunshine! Today we had our first official Thunder Storm – a good 25 minutes of grumblings. When we first moved here nearly 6 years ago – I was so frightened by these storms. I am happy to say that I was cheering for the rumble today – it is so amazing to think of how these storms are orchestrated. Wow!

On to my bag! I have determined that this will stay with me and not go in the etsy shop as my iron left a stain – you probably won’t be able to see it but I … Read More »

Look at what I got!

Posted on May 3rd, by Amy in give away, Me. 5 comments

I forgot to tell you on Tuesday I responded to a offer for free fabric – and emailed in time to get in on the action! I never win anything – the last few months I have commented all over blogland, to no avail. But Valori Wells designer for Free Spirit was giving Olive Rose fat quarters to the first 18 people to email her. Just when I was needing a fix too! They came today – I am so excited. Of course my girls want to know what they are for, I have to figure that out still. I will keep you posted if I come up with anything. Thank you Valori!I also got a haircut today! I was a bit overdue, pretty sure I last had it cut before Christmas. … Read More »

Happy Day

Posted on April 30th, by Amy in bag, work in progress. 1 Comment

Hi again! Our date night last night was great! Park City in April is very quiet, (ski bum, USA) so many of the nice restaurants put 2 for 1 entree coupons in the local paper, and we ended up at Ghidotti’s. It was a very nice dinner, with excellent service – we were one of three or four couples the two hours we were there, like I said very quiet. Joe and I had a nice time just being together and enjoying a bit of peace without our lovely kids. Owen did great without me, but was super excited when I walked in the room, and then he tested me all night, making sure I was still here. =) He’s a sweet, and smart little guy.

The last few days my sewing machine has … Read More »

Tackle it Tuesday

Posted on April 29th, by Amy in bracelets, Tackle it Tuesday. 3 comments

Well I have done a lot of housework over the last few weeks, and I woke up with my eyes itching, and sneezing, so I don’t dare go outside and weed/prep garden beds. I don’t thrive on Benadryl, or I should say my kids/house wouldn’t! So my tackle for today is getting sweet little bracelets posted in my shop. =) I have been too busy to create recently and feeling the need to sit and relax with my beads. Here’s a few pictures of what I’ve been up too!Clicking the pictures will take you to my shop.

Also very exciting – Date Night Tonight! Owen is 10 months old and we have not had a date without him yet. He and his big sisters will have fun here at the house with … Read More »
