Featuring Mary :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on August 30th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 1 Comment

Today, I’m pleased to feature Mary! Mary blogs at Mary on Lake Pulaski, and was the winner in the hand quilted category, most recently! Mary is a generous and kind friend too, if you don’t already follow her – you should! I hope you enjoy getting to know Mary‘ better –

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting when I took time off work when my two children were born.  I still quilted when I went back to work, but had very little time until I happily retired seven years ago.  Now I do some kind of sewing almost every day.

2. Why do you quilt?

The answer to that would appear plain and simple if you saw my sewing room – I love the color, the feel the design and everything else about fabric!  Being a quilter … Read More »

Getting Organized!

Posted on August 26th, by Amy in finished project. 5 comments

Hi friends! I hope you had a great weekend! With our first week of school behind us, we were glad to have a chance to relax together, and have fun! I am slowly getting my desk/office area organized again, finding new homes for all the usual things, to do lists, bills, school papers, etcetera.

When looking through my pins recently, I found a wall mail organizer that I decided would make great use of the wall space around me. Plus – it’s bright and colorful on the white wall next to my desk! Once I get the rest of the desk under control, I’ll share more.

This week, I’m working on a number of little things and a few big ones – what about you? Hopefully, I find a little time to sew too … Read More »

Featuring Grit :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on August 23rd, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 4 comments

Hi friends! Today’s featured quilter is Grit! Grit blogs from Germany, at Grit’s Life, and was the winner of the Bed Quilt category in the spring Blogger’s Quilt Festival.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Grit and her quilts better –

1. When did you begin quilting?
I started quilting 16 years ago. A friend of mine showed me a quilt and I loved it. She gave me a book about quilting and I found a picture of a quilt that I really fell in love with. So I started quilting without any experience. I bought books about quilting, took quilting classes and have been quilting ever since.

2. Why do you quilt?
I just love to work with different fabrics, I enjoy the variety of colors and patterns and I think, meanwhile, I can’t live without quilting anymore.

4. What was your inspiration … Read More »

And It Begins!

Posted on August 20th, by Amy in My kids. 9 comments

Our school year is off to a great start, with all four of the kids excited about their teachers and classes! As usual getting through the first day is always a gamble – I’m never sure how exhausted or energetic they will be after the fact.

This is their after school picture this evening. Since Ella is out of the house before the rest wake up, it’s hard to get everyone together before school, but I’m so glad to have this one after.  I’m excited to learn along with them this year – it’s never dull around here for homework time :)

Sophia was NOT interested in my taking her picture with her new messenger bag this morning, so I saved that sullen face for you. I just finished this bag for her yesterday, … Read More »

Today Jennifer is sharing her quilts with us! Jennifer was the winner of the two-color quilt category and blogs regularly at Quilter in the Closet. I hope you enjoy getting to know Jennifer better -

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting about 4 years ago. I had just had my 2nd child and realized I wasn’t going to go back to work in the office. I recognized that being at home full time was going to be a huge change for me. I am the type of person that needs goals, progress I can see, and some finished project that shows … Read More »

Formation

Posted on August 13th, by Amy in Baby Lock, finished quilt, Long Arm Quilting. 15 comments

This quilt has been in the works since April, I think! It’s fairly simple, and was pieced quickly, but I wanted to build my confidence before I loaded it on the long-arm. Looking at it now, I’m glad I waited a bit!

I call it “Formation”, as I’m reminded of a flock of geese as I look at it, and the traditional name for the triangles is “flying geese” – fits right!?

This is the first of many projects for Baby Lock over the next few years – I will let you know when a pattern is available on their site.

I was initially inspired by Emily’s fabric – Technicolor is a fun and vibrant collection, and one of the prints is groupings of triangles. You can see it in my quilt if you look close. Then when quilting it, I took my … Read More »
