Wedding Quilt & Our Trip

Posted on September 27th, by Amy in finished quilt, My kids. 11 comments

Hi there! I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts and post all week, and couldn’t quite get it together – so it waited. I hope you all have had a great week! I took the time (FINALLY!) to do some website maintenance, which didn’t take as long as I had imagined, and why I had put it off for so long. If you can’t find something specific, drop me a note and I’ll see if we can find it :) Part of the reason for the updates is Blogger’s Quilt Festival is coming -

I’ve added the code for you to grab in the sidebar, add it to your sidebar or next post, and spread the word! It’s going to be great :)

I’ve been secretly working on this quilt the last few months, for my sister-in-law, Jenna, … Read More »

Quiltcast #5

Posted on September 25th, by Amy in podcast, Quiltcast. 3 comments

Thanks for tuning in this week! April and I share our wish list of new skills to learn – what’s on your list?  Our Top 5 includes tools and notions for learning our new skills.

The wedding quilt – at last! I made this quilt for my sister-in-law and her new husband, who is really tall! When I learned that they were planning to purchase a California King size bed, I super-sized my design!

We all have skills we want to learn, or perfect. Here’s what April and I have on our lists :

April

- Long-arm binding application

- Needle-turn appliqué

- Consistency in curved piecing

- Hiding/burying knots

Amy

- Perle Cotton appliqué

- Hand quilting also with perle cotton

- 1/4″ Paper pieced hexagons

This is the quilt I mentioned in the cast, click the picture to read more about my process in making the quilt.

Quiltcast #4

Posted on September 18th, by Amy in podcast, Quiltcast. 4 comments

Today April and I chat about our favorite traditional quilt blocks and how we like to make them unique, and current. Share your favorite blocks with us in the comments!

Beth found some snips that she loves. She didn’t have the brand available, but I’m guessing they are Havel’s or Famore’s snips. I use the rainbow pair of Famore snips, and April has a Fiskars snip that she keeps hidden from her kiddos!

I haven’t mentioned this on the blog yet, but I am a new contributor to Quilty! I’m talking about quilting on your domestic machine in each new installment of Quilty, if you are just getting started, this entire mag is a great resource for you! There’s also lots of great quilt patterns too – be sure to check it out :)

Featuring Mary :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on August 30th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 1 Comment

Today, I’m pleased to feature Mary! Mary blogs at Mary on Lake Pulaski, and was the winner in the hand quilted category, most recently! Mary is a generous and kind friend too, if you don’t already follow her – you should! I hope you enjoy getting to know Mary‘ better –

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting when I took time off work when my two children were born.  I still quilted when I went back to work, but had very little time until I happily retired seven years ago.  Now I do some kind of sewing almost every day.

2. Why do you quilt?

The answer to that would appear plain and simple if you saw my sewing room – I love the color, the feel the design and everything else about fabric!  Being a quilter … Read More »
