Weekend Sewing

Posted on April 15th, by Amy in Bees Knees. 5 comments

Hi friends! I hope you had a great weekend!  After a week back to school, after a week off for Spring Break, we really needed the weekend to rest and relax a little.  I’ve been having fun getting acquainted with my Crown Jewel, and look forward to adding quilts to the mix this week!  So far it’s just been some yardage on the bars, while getting the feel of things. :)

For actual sewing, I caught up on bee blocks – which I had been wanting to do, and kept putting off.  Since I put Trish’s blocks off for so long, I added the solid white and made two of her requested blocks.

The pattern is called Greek Cross, closely related to a Churn Dash if you alter the color placements a little. I love the fabrics you sent Trish, and I’m … Read More »

Modern Basics II en masse! Yay, my books arrived!

I admitted that I really do like sushi.

Bee block in the mail – a fun surprise.

Sunday afternoon block sewing.  One is for a fun quilt-along this week, and the rest are my experimentation.

My silly kids – she had been collecting hairbands…big sister helped her out!

I hope you had a great weekend

More soon – Amy

Bee Block Catch Up!

Posted on October 30th, by Amy in Bees Knees. 8 comments

Over the weekend I took a few hours to catch up on bee blocks!

These string blocks are for Amylouwho – we were chatting after I shared the picture with her, and she bought some of the prints used the first time we met!  We met up at a fabric shop and had fun chatting and shopping for a few hours.  How fun that she sent these fabrics out for her bee blocks!

This block is for April of Prairie Grass Patterns – she sent fun fabrics, and a paper piecing pattern for us to use!  I liked working on this and was challenged a bit with the angles involved – the end results are worth the efforts though!

Bee Blocks!

Posted on August 30th, by Amy in Bees Knees. 7 comments

Hi friends – I’ve been reluctant to admit it (even to myself), but I have come down with a summer cold. Boo! I’m hoping I can rest enough today to feel better for the weekend.

Meanwhile, I had a mailbox full of bee blocks.

A couple of the ladies made two even – big thank you to Amy, Nedra, Emily and Sherri!  I can’t wait to see this quilt come together.

I hope you are having a great week – Amy

The Bees Knees – Quilting Bee

Posted on April 24th, by Amy in Bees Knees. 16 comments

Hi friends!  I am in  a new quilting bee!  April was our first month, and I’m finally posting about it and my block.  Sherri sent everyone two fat eighths of Happy Mochi Yum and a fat quarter of Bella white, and gave us some general direction for what she was hoping for in the blocks.

Two of Sherri’s favorite blocks are pinwheels, and stars, so I found a block that combines them both -

This was such a fun block to make!  Flying geese, HST units, and quarter square units combine to make the great pattern.  I hope you like it Sherri!

After making the block, I was trying to think of what I might alternate the block with to make a full quilt, and came up with this -
