Hi there! I’m excited to share a new book with all of you today (and give an ebook away too!) My friend Melissa Corry from Happy Quilting Melissa authored Irish Chain Quilts: Contemporary Twists on a Classic Design – and it’s fantastic! 15 approachable and fresh quilt patterns are included in the book, for every style of quilter, and Melissa walks you through each and every step of the process.
The book is written in four sections, Twist on Tradition, Modern Patchwork, Improvisational Piecing and Appliquéd Chains. Melissa gives a brief introduction to each group of quilts, and is her usual encouraging self throughout the book. If you don’t know Melissa yet, stop by her blog and get to know her!
As part of this blog hop, each of us … Read More »
I’ve mentioned this new book a few times, but today I have pictures to accompany all that talk! Scraps, Inc. is full of amazing scrap quilts, that you want to make! There’s also tons of inspiring photography, and great diagrams to make sure you know exactly what to do next.
For me making a scrap quilt is a bit of a luxury, but always a favorite. I love the reminder of the past projects all sewn into one beautiful quilt top. My quilt included in the book is a collection of my favorite blocks, colors, and fabrics. My Favorite Things:
Star blocks make up the center, then I have four-patches, triangles, lots of log cabins, and churn dash blocks to finally frame the quilt top.
I happily used bits of fat quarters, and random charm packs that I have collected, along with all … Read More »

There seems to be NO shortage of amazing new books to add to our quilting libraries! Today’s review is for Imagine Quilts by my friend Dana Bolyard of Old Red Barn Co., she’s taking everyday inspiration (including your fabric!), and showing you how her brain works, to make those ideas into beautiful quilts!
I love Dana’s voice throughout the book, and the 11 patterns that she’s included are fresh and unique. Her cover quilt, Posy Patrol, is a fun pattern full of gorgeous prints, both bright and muted tones. Ampersand is a great bold pattern, using beautiful solids, and inspiration to look around you for your own graphic quilt.
I love some of the different ideas and techniques Dana uses too! Using a dresden wedge to make this inspired quilt :
And the photography is really fun – they used a barn to … Read More »
I have a quick finish to share with you today!
Nancy Zieman’s new book – Quick Column Quilts is full of beautiful and useful patterns for any quilter!
This table runner is based off of the Quilt to Give pattern in chapter 13 – I’ve admired this quilt, for a while now, and knew it was the quilt that I wanted to stitch up! I have been stitching from my scrap box lately, and knew that I wanted to make a more masculine table runner for our dining table in my Modern Neutral fabrics. Sometimes it’s a little odd to celebrate my husband or son’s birthday with a floral runner on the table, and this will be the perfect solution.
While there’s lots of instruction for cutting from yardage, I had a blast pulling scraps from my bin and pairing them up! Since … Read More »
I can hardly believe that it’s July, and not nearly ready to start thinking about sewing for Christmas. But if you are – I have the perfect book for you! Celebrate Christmas with That Patchwork Place is packed with fun and festive projects for your home, and great gifts too!
I’m loving a number of these projects, and with over 20 to choose from there’s something for everyone! Bags, pillows, wall hangings, ornaments, and so much more. Take a look :
I think my favorites are the table runners in both of these groups. They are creative and festive, and would add the perfect touch of Christmas decor to the most used piece of furniture in my home – the kitchen table!

Hi there! I have been MIA lately getting things together for Market, and Blogger’s Quilt Festival, but I am excited to be here to celebrate a new book! Amy Smart just released a great new book, Fabulously Fast Quilts, and I am pleased to say that I learned a couple new tips while exploring the book!
To spread the word about the book, Amy asked that we share (see list below) our own tips, and I’m sharing my favorite way to press.
Bulk Pressing. I am always trying to eliminate steps, or how many times I touch pieces as I work through the making of a quilt top, and this is exactly that! I often sew as long as I can within a project (or 2!) without pressing, but then I have to step back and press everything.
First I set the closed seam, the open and … Read More »
Most everyone that quilts or sews knows the name Nancy Zieman, and with this book I felt like I really got to know Nancy! Seams Unlikely is a quickly paced read with lots of great insights into Nancy’s childhood, and inspirational stories of her career. Nancy wrote this book, just like she talks – at times it seemed like she was reading to me, even! In the process of writing the book Nancy interviewed family members and co-workers, that have become like family over the years, and the little bits of shared experiences were so fun to read.
Nancy shared that her lack of confidence, and introvert tendencies, were pushed aside when asked to give demonstrations as a girl in 4-H. It was in those few moments of teaching that she was truly in her element and excited … Read More »
Earlier this month this new book came out with a ton of great projects in it! All for your kitchen and dining spaces!
My contribution to Kitchen Stitches is this sweet table runner and napkin set, called Cartwheels. To the right you can see a peek of all the beautiful pieces included in Kitchen Stitches!
Have you sewn for your kitchen lately?
I love having a runner on my table, it always brings a smile to my face, to see a bit of quilty amongst the busyness of each day! Looking through the book there are few other projects that I would love to add to my kitchen too – someday soon. Obviously most of the projects are quilted pieces, but there are some great wall decor items too! Great inspiration for your … Read More »
Hi there! Today my friends at Moda are hosting a fun hop to celebrate books!
One of the first quilting books that I learned to quilt from, is The Simple Joys of Quilting by Joan Hanson and Mary Hickey. I even photographed it with one of my earliest quilts, that I made for our Emmalie as a baby.
In the book, the pattern was for a twin, but I couldn’t imagine making a quilt that size at the time, and the little 27″ quilt was perfect for the stroller and carseat.
My most favorite book is always the most recent one that I worked on :)
In this case, it’s Modern Neutrals. I’m just so proud of the end product, and love the patterns included. Not having Basics in the title gave me freedom to include challenging and more detailed patterns. … Read More »
Hi there! Last week I had a couple of fun packages from my publisher! Set the Table is a collection of beautiful table runners —
My project is Spring Blooms –
like all of the projects in the book, it’s a great way to add a pop of color to any tabletop.
Also, The Big Book of Baby Quilts – this is a compilation of baby quilts from previous publications. There’s 288 pages full of patterns, including my own Posie Patch.
Posie Patch is the cover quilt for Modern Basics. There’s quilts for all skill levels and everyone is a manageable size!
Both Set the Table and The Big Book of Baby Quilts are great additions to your quilt library!
Let me know if you pick either of these up –
Hi friends – I had intended to post yesterday, and my day got away from me! I thought I would share a few new books where you can find my work, along with a bunch of other great designers, in these compilation books.
I, of course knew about these compilations, but by the time they arrived on my doorstep –
I had completely forgotten about them, and my role within! Fun surprise ;)
Evening Bags was produced by Interweave, and includes complete patterns 16 fun clutch, and small purses for you to customize and make in your favorite fabrics. There’s a couple I am hoping to make soon!
