Hi all! Today’s featured quilter is Wiesia – a quilter from Poland! I love that the Blogger’s Quilt Festival crosses the oceans and international boundaries. Wiesia is relatively new to quilting, and has some beautiful quilts to share with us, also be sure to check out her blog Quilt & Smile. I hope you enjoy getting to know Wiesia better –

1. When did you begin quilting?
I started making small quilted projects (pillows, table toppers etc. ) three years ago. My first lap quilt I’ve done last year.

2. Why do you quilt?

Last year I spent a lot of  time learning  how to quilt and I love it! Free motion quilting is my favorite part of quilt making. Now I’m working on Farmer’s Wife Sampler – and it’s  a great opportunity to learn different  piecing techniques.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

My favorite  quilting tip is Cindy’s Needham “divide … Read More »

1.  When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting about 4 years ago when my daughter was moving from a crib into a toddler bed and needed some new bedding.  I had always loved quilts, but had not done much sewing beyond HomeEc in middle school and a few easy Halloween costumes.  I read tons of blogs to learn everything I could about quilting and jumped right in.  That first quilt had me totally hooked.  I have since taken over the guest room as my sewing room and use quilting as a creative and relaxing outlet.

2.  Why do you quilt?

As a mother of two little children, … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I made my first quilt about 40 years ago and it was horrible!  I made another one about 5 years later and then another about 5 years after that.  About 25 years ago I really got into it.  I had developed some chronic medical problems that will be with me for life and I really needed … Read More »

Hi there! Today’s featured quilter is Sherri! Sherri blogs at RebeccaMaeDesigns, and she has some bright and beautiful quilts to share! I hope you enjoy getting to know Sherri better —

1. When did you begin quilting?

My mom had an old singer sewing machine when I was growing up and I loved sewing on it, but I didn’t make my first quilt until I was in college (25 years ago! ugh!).  It was a nine patch, and I still believe that’s the best starter quilt!

2. Why do you quilt?

I love anything handmade but I just have a passion for quilts.  I’m just drawn to them… old, new, vintage, modern… I love them all!  I have a quilt passed down from my great great grandmother and I hope someday my great great grandchildren will find comfort in a quilt I’ve made.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

Sometimes a quilter gets caught up in the ‘right way’ to quilt.  Quilting is art in my opinion.  There … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

When I was five, my parents went on a trip to look for a house for us in Wisconsin.  My Grandma came to stay with us while they were gone.  She taught me how to sew and I sewed together the scraps from  my mom’s rag bin (including the furry toilet seat cover) into a quilt for my brother.  Of course he LOVED it!  I’ve always been creative but I didn’t do too much sewing … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
I actually didn’t start sewing or quilting before I was gifted a sewing machine in early 2014. So not for that long, but I haven’t looked back since I started!

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt for the love of fabric, maths and patterns. I love the endless possibilities that come with designing and sewing a quilt top and the additional texture of the quilting.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
I’m still leanring so much, but one thing I found is that most of the time there isn’t only just one right way to do something when it comes to patchwork and quilting. Don’t fear to break the rules sometimes! I … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting in 2004 when a friend invited me to take a quilting class with her.  She wanted to take the class, and being shy, didn’t want to go alone.  I agreed, thinking it would be a fun way to while away a few Wednesday mornings, not realizing it would become both profession and obsession.  I can’t thank my friend Marguerite enough for introducing me to the world of quilting!!!

2. Why do you quilt?

I have always needed an artistic and creative outlet of one sort or another.  Before quilting it was cross stitch and before cross stitch it was writing … Read More »

Today’s featured quilter is Liza from Quiltifications! Liza has a great reply for why she quilts – I hope you enjoy getting to know her and her quilts!

1. When did you begin quilting?

My first quilt was made of doublemint gum wrappers in 1969 and it was made for my sister’s barbie doll. It was more woven than pieced, but between us we managed to imagine enough detail to make it work. The first real, useable bed quilt I gave as a gift was made in 1982. I guess that means I’ve been quilting for about 35 years, but yikes. That makes me seem really old.

2. Why do you quilt?

I quilt because it … Read More »

Today’s featured quitter is Ben! Ben blogs at Huntspatch Quilts, and has some fantastic quilts to share with us today. I hope you enjoy getting to know Ben a little better –

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting in 2011.  I had been intrigued by the idea for some time, and had thought I would give it a try upon retirement.  But after purchasing a sewing machine for a different purpose, I started experimenting and got hooked.  (I haven’t made it to retirement yet.

2. Why do you quilt?

I get ideas in my head that just want to get out.  In a way, I think we were meant to be creative.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

I attach my bindings by machine, as a number of quilters do, but before I do, I zig-zag around the quilt with fusible thread … Read More »

Featuring Nina Marie :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on January 30th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 7 comments

The best part of the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, for me, is the huge variety of quilts, and thus inspiration. Today’s featured quilter has beautifully pieced, and striking art quilts to share! I hope you enjoy getting to know Nina Marie and her quilts better —

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began my great passion in life by mistake!  I started cross-stitching when I was 7 and there was never a time when I didn’t stitch.  Then when I was 26, I got a quilt book by mistake in the mail instead of the cross-stitch book I  had ordered.  I was working out of town, so had time to read it before returning it.  It dawned on me, that although I never sewed, I could make a quilt which I had always loved.  When I got home, I bought my first … Read More »

Little known fact – you can participate in the Blogger’s Quilt Festivals by sharing a Flickr link instead of a blog. That’s how today’s featured quilter, Belinda has shared her work in the Festivals! The main thing I ask, is that you still share the story of your quilt, along with the image. You can check out Belinda’s photo stream here, I hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better –

1. When did you begin quilting?
My quilting journey began in the very early 90’s when a sewing friend & I took a quilting class. It was her grand passion in life to become a quilter. I was just along for the ride as I didn’t think quilting was anything I would ever want to, let alone, love to do. 20 years later, I am, of course, a passionate … Read More »

I’m always inspired by the featured quilters, and today is no different! Today’s featured quilter is Yvonne, also known online, as Quilting Jetgirl. I hope you enjoy getting to know Yvonne, and her quilts more —

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started making my first quilt when I was 15 to have to use in college. My paternal grandmother hand stitched the quilt for me; it was the last quilt that she quilted. Making that quilt spanned over a year and was completed in 1996. I made several more and received my first sewing machine as a Christmas gift in 1999, but my quilting really took off in 2008 after years of not sewing. When the wedding invitations started to become sparse and the baby announcements started rolling in, I dusted off my sewing machine and my quilting has really taken … Read More »
