Happy Friday! Today’s feature is Nicole of Mama Love Quilts! Hope you enjoy getting to know Nicole a little better -

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting in 2001 during grad school. I found out about a class that was being held and figured why not! I found quilting a great way to relieve the stress of grad school life.

2. Why do you quilt?
Quilts give me a way to play with design and color, while making something practical for everyday life. It’s also a great stress reliever, at least until I need to pull out the seam ripper!

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
Practice makes better. No one is born knowing how to quilt, but the more practice we have doing it, the better we become.

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt? (photo above)
My daughter’s birthday was approaching … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I actually began quilting seriously 25 years ago but stopped (kids and career) and then started again in a big way about 4 years ago.  My husband said I needed a hobby after our kids left the nest.  I took his suggestion to heart and became a very busy quilter!

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because it is so much fun and is a great stress reliever.  I work full time as an elementary school principal and quilting is something that I do as a hobby because it is so different from my work!  I love to create.  I also … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting about 18 years ago.  A friend of mine was going to have a baby and I wanted to make a quilt for her new daughter.  I based it on the cover of the book On the Day You Were Born by Debra Frasier.  Another friend of mine, Anne, had recently retired and was so wonderful and supportive… she gave me a few tips, several ideas and confidence.

2. Why do you quilt?

For me quilting is a great way of releasing stress–when there is nothing/little in my life I can control, I always can … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?
I started quilting quite by accident about 10 years ago.  I had always been crafty but never learned to sew.  My parents bought me a sewing machine for Christmas one year after my husband and I bought our first home.  I knew nothing about sewing and to be honest, didn’t really want the machine!  Can you imagine?!  But I figured I should learn to sew so I could make home decor projects.  During one of my initial free sewing lessons that came with the purchase of the machine, the instructor happened to mention that there was a quilt shop around the corner with great fabric.  I stepped … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I have known how to sew since I was a small child. My mom, both grandmothers and my babysitter all sewed. Of course I started out making clothes and continued through High School, but pretty much stopped when I started college. About the same time (early ‘80’s) my mother took up quilting. I didn’t sew or quilt again until I moved back to Upstate NY in the late 90’s, when my mom got me started quilting. Since my mom “quilted by check” – sent her quilts out to a long-arm quilter to be quilted, I did the same thing. I pieced a quilt top about every year or two. I have … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I have been quilting for just about 3.5 years. When I was pregnant with my son I wanted to make a bunch of things for his nursery and began searching the internet for inspiration. In the process I stumbled upon a number of modern quilt blogs, including AmysCreativeSide, and I was completely hooked! Since then I have completed approximately 15 quilts, and a number of smaller quilted items.

2. Why do you quilt?
Quilting is a creative outlet for me. I am a software engineer by profession, and I have always needed to balance all of my work with computers, which is essentially all in … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I started quilting way back in the early 1990s.  I was just out of college and looking for something to sew on my Grandmother’s 1958 White Rotary.  A friend hooked me up with Quiltnet, an international online internet quilt guild.  The guild communicated through an email listserv.  I quickly became addicted to the block swaps and round robins.   It was a great way to learn different techniques.  For various reasons I stopped quilting for about 9 years.  In the summer of 2010 I restarted my quilting life and went back to the internet excited to see all the blogs, photos, and videos available.

2.  Why do you quilt?
I quilt because … Read More »

One more day! I’m looking forward to seeing all the quilts that you have been working on! Today I have a few people to feature, I hope you enjoy getting to know Sara better. Sara blogs at Knottygnome Crafts, after you finish here, click over and see what she’s been up to lately!

1) How long have you been a quilter?
I’ve been quilting since 2007. It took me about six months to complete my first quilt and about the same amount of time to finish my second. My pace picked up considerably after that though, when I bought my Janome Horizon.

2) Why do you quilt?
I love color. I love creating different color combinations and putting together fabric stacks. I love to take a mix of colors and patterns and arrange them into shapes. I love working with scraps and using little bits … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I began working on my first quilt when I was a girl. My mom made garments and I decided that I wanted to try quilting. We bought all the fabric, and a rotary cutter (thank goodness), and I picked out the log cabin quilt pattern that I wanted to make. I cut the pieces for all the blocks, sewed probably 3 or 4 seams, and decided that it was the world’s most boring thing ever. Fast-forward almost 30 years, and I picked up quilting again during grad school. That was about 3 years ago now, and it turns out with adult-level patience, I … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?
I started quilting in 2010 when I was pregnant with my son.  My husband had just graduated from law school and was working long hours which left me with some lonely evenings.  I was looking for a hobby other than watching television, but I don’t think I realized what I was getting into!  When I first bought my machine I just wanted to make a few simple baby items.  A couple months later I decided I wanted to … Read More »
