Little known fact – you can participate in the Blogger’s Quilt Festivals by sharing a Flickr link instead of a blog. That’s how today’s featured quilter, Belinda has shared her work in the Festivals! The main thing I ask, is that you still share the story of your quilt, along with the image. You can check out Belinda’s photo stream here, I hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better –

1. When did you begin quilting?
My quilting journey began in the very early 90’s when a sewing friend & I took a quilting class. It was her grand passion in life to become a quilter. I was just along for the ride as I didn’t think quilting was anything I would ever want to, let alone, love to do. 20 years later, I am, of course, a passionate … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started making my first quilt when I was 15 to have to use in college. My paternal grandmother hand stitched the quilt for me; it was the last quilt that she quilted. Making that quilt spanned over a year and was completed in 1996. I made several more and received my first sewing machine as a Christmas gift in 1999, but my quilting really took off in 2008 after years of not sewing. When the wedding invitations started to become sparse and the baby announcements started rolling in, I dusted off my sewing machine and my quilting has really taken … Read More »

Thinking about the year to come, and this space, I decided that I needed to reinstate my features of other quilters! My pool of quilters is large with the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, and so I spent an hour looking through entries, and emailing a number of quilters that I liked, and you all seemed to like as well. (linky stats!) If there is a quilter you would like to nominate and learn more about, from the most recent BQF, drop me a note with a link to that blogger, and I will add them to my list. (Just use the contact form above)

Happy Friday! Today’s feature is Nicole of Mama Love Quilts! Hope you enjoy getting to know Nicole a little better –

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting in 2001 during grad school. I found out about a class that was being held and figured why not! I found quilting a great way to relieve the stress of grad school life.

2. Why do you quilt?
Quilts give me a way to play with design and color, while making something practical for everyday life. It’s also a great stress reliever, at least until I need to pull out the seam ripper!

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
Practice makes better. No one is born knowing how to quilt, but the more practice we have doing it, the better we become.

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt? (photo above)
My daughter’s birthday was approaching … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I actually began quilting seriously 25 years ago but stopped (kids and career) and then started again in a big way about 4 years ago.  My husband said I needed a hobby after our kids left the nest.  I took his suggestion to heart and became a very busy quilter!

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because it is so much fun and is a great stress reliever.  I work full time as an elementary school principal and quilting is something that I do as a hobby because it is so different from my work!  I love to create.  I also … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting about 18 years ago.  A friend of mine was going to have a baby and I wanted to make a quilt for her new daughter.  I based it on the cover of the book On the Day You Were Born by Debra Frasier.  Another friend of mine, Anne, had recently retired and was so wonderful and supportive… she gave me a few tips, several ideas and confidence.

2. Why do you quilt?

For me quilting is a great way of releasing stress–when there is nothing/little in my life I can control, I always can … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?
I started quilting quite by accident about 10 years ago.  I had always been crafty but never learned to sew.  My parents bought me a sewing machine for Christmas one year after my husband and I bought our first home.  I knew nothing about sewing and to be honest, didn’t really want the machine!  Can you imagine?!  But I figured I should learn to sew so I could make home decor projects.  During one of my initial free sewing lessons that came with the purchase of the machine, the instructor happened to mention that there was a quilt shop around the corner with great fabric.  I stepped … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I have known how to sew since I was a small child. My mom, both grandmothers and my babysitter all sewed. Of course I started out making clothes and continued through High School, but pretty much stopped when I started college. About the same time (early ‘80’s) my mother took up quilting. I didn’t sew or quilt again until I moved back to Upstate NY in the late 90’s, when my mom got me started quilting. Since my mom “quilted by check” – sent her quilts out to a long-arm quilter to be quilted, I did the same thing. I pieced a quilt top about every year or two. I have … Read More »

Our next feature today is Kelsey! Kelsey blogs at Kelsey Creates, and I hope you enjoy getting to know Kelsey and her quilts better -

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I have been quilting for just about 3.5 years. When I was pregnant with my son I wanted to make a bunch of things for his nursery and began searching the internet for inspiration. In the process I stumbled upon a number of modern quilt blogs, including AmysCreativeSide, and I was completely hooked! Since then I have completed approximately 15 quilts, and a number of smaller quilted items.

2. Why do you quilt?
Quilting is a creative outlet for me. I am a software engineer by profession, and I have always needed to balance all of my work with computers, which is essentially all in … Read More »

Next up is Colleen! Colleen blogs at Lucky Duck Dreams – I hope you enjoy getting to know Colleen and her quilts better –

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I started quilting way back in the early 1990s.  I was just out of college and looking for something to sew on my Grandmother’s 1958 White Rotary.  A friend hooked me up with Quiltnet, an international online internet quilt guild.  The guild communicated through an email listserv.  I quickly became addicted to the block swaps and round robins.   It was a great way to learn different techniques.  For various reasons I stopped quilting for about 9 years.  In the summer of 2010 I restarted my quilting life and went back to the internet excited to see all the blogs, photos, and videos available.

2.  Why do you quilt?
I quilt because … Read More »
