Next up is Colleen! Colleen blogs at Lucky Duck Dreams – I hope you enjoy getting to know Colleen and her quilts better –

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I started quilting way back in the early 1990s.  I was just out of college and looking for something to sew on my Grandmother’s 1958 White Rotary.  A friend hooked me up with Quiltnet, an international online internet quilt guild.  The guild communicated through an email listserv.  I quickly became addicted to the block swaps and round robins.   It was a great way to learn different techniques.  For various reasons I stopped quilting for about 9 years.  In the summer of 2010 I restarted my quilting life and went back to the internet excited to see all the blogs, photos, and videos available.

2.  Why do you quilt?
I quilt because … Read More »

One more day! I’m looking forward to seeing all the quilts that you have been working on! Today I have a few people to feature, I hope you enjoy getting to know Sara better. Sara blogs at Knottygnome Crafts, after you finish here, click over and see what she’s been up to lately!

1) How long have you been a quilter?
I’ve been quilting since 2007. It took me about six months to complete my first quilt and about the same amount of time to finish my second. My pace picked up considerably after that though, when I bought my Janome Horizon.

2) Why do you quilt?
I love color. I love creating different color combinations and putting together fabric stacks. I love to take a mix of colors and patterns and arrange them into shapes. I love working with scraps and using little bits … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I began working on my first quilt when I was a girl. My mom made garments and I decided that I wanted to try quilting. We bought all the fabric, and a rotary cutter (thank goodness), and I picked out the log cabin quilt pattern that I wanted to make. I cut the pieces for all the blocks, sewed probably 3 or 4 seams, and decided that it was the world’s most boring thing ever. Fast-forward almost 30 years, and I picked up quilting again during grad school. That was about 3 years ago now, and it turns out with adult-level patience, I … Read More »

Erica blogs at Kitchen Table Quilting, and I hope you enjoy getting to know her and her great quilts better –

1. How long have you been a quilter?
I started quilting in 2010 when I was pregnant with my son.  My husband had just graduated from law school and was working long hours which left me with some lonely evenings.  I was looking for a hobby other than watching television, but I don’t think I realized what I was getting into!  When I first bought my machine I just wanted to make a few simple baby items.  A couple months later I decided I wanted to … Read More »

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I had a plan, that when my youngest son started kindergarten I wanted to learn how to quilt. One of my best friends from high school was one of 5  daughters and they quilted as a family. I thought it would be so cool to be a part of a group of women who got together to quilt. Well, said son started kindergarten in 1988 and I didn’t start quilting until 2003, when my second grandchild was due! I was a little late to the game but I think the timing was really perfect. I entered this beautiful … Read More »

Hi there! I’m excited to share Beverly’s quilts here today! Beverly blogs at Fiberhart, and dyes her own fabrics too – I hope you enjoy getting to know Beverly better!

1. How long have you been a quilter?

Although I had some exposure to quilting with the bicentennial celebrations in the 1970’s, I didn’t start quilting seriously until 1994 when my youngest child was diagnosed with leukemia.  It became a form of therapy while I dealt with all of her medical issues.  I’ve been quilting ever since.

2. Why do you quilt?

I can’t imagine not quilting!  It is the polar opposite of my professional life as a social worker.  My quilts are one hundred percent designed and made by me, and I have a finished product that I can touch and see.  It really is my therapy!

Jan blogs at Prytz Family, about her quilting and family, and everything in between. Jan’s quilts are beautiful – I hope you enjoy getting to know Jan better –

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I’ve been quilting for four years, and sewing for over 60.

2. Why do you quilt?

Quilting is my artistic outlet.  I’m retired and consider it my “job”, it’s nice to have a focus.  Quilting is what I do when I have down time.

3. Why do you participate in Blogger’s Quilt Festival?

I participate for fun.  I love the blogging and quilting community, and the Quilt Festival is a chance to “meet” more people, and show off a little.

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival quilt, that you shared last spring?  (pictured above)

I wanted to make a Fall themed quilt.  I really didn’t … Read More »

I hope you enjoy getting to know this group of quilters this week! Susan is the first of a few bloggers to be featured this week. Susan blogs at Canadian Abroad, and has a fun style to her quilts! I hope you enjoy getting to know Susan better –

1. How long have you been a quilter?

I’ve been quilting for approximately seven years. The first four years I was in a quilting wilderness. There was no history of quilting in my family and I didn’t know anyone who quilted.

2. Why do you quilt?

I started quilting when my two daughters were young. (They are eleven and twelve now.) I am a stay-at-home mum and … Read More »

Today, I’m pleased to feature Mary! Mary blogs at Mary on Lake Pulaski, and was the winner in the hand quilted category, most recently! Mary is a generous and kind friend too, if you don’t already follow her – you should! I hope you enjoy getting to know Mary‘ better –

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting when I took time off work when my two children were born.  I still quilted when I went back to work, but had very little time until I happily retired seven years ago.  Now I do some kind of sewing almost every day.

2. Why do you quilt?

The answer to that would appear plain and simple if you saw my sewing room – I love the color, the feel the design and everything else about fabric!  Being a quilter … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
I started quilting 16 years ago. A friend of mine showed me a quilt and I loved it. She gave me a book about quilting and I found a picture of a quilt that I really fell in love with. So I started quilting without any experience. I bought books about quilting, took quilting classes and have been quilting ever since.

2. Why do you quilt?
I just love to work with different fabrics, I enjoy the variety of colors and patterns and I think, meanwhile, I can’t live without quilting anymore.

4. What was your inspiration … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting about 4 years ago. I had just had my 2nd child and realized I wasn’t going to go back to work in the office. I recognized that being at home full time was going to be a huge change for me. I am the type of person that needs goals, progress I can see, and some finished project that shows … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting about 10 years ago.  But have always loved this ‘medium’.  I’m not 20 and I’m not 60 either, but I do remember my grandmother, Josie, sitting and sewing at a treadle sewing machine that we had in our dining room.  I have always had a love for the arts and studied art in college.

2. Why do you quilt?

I quilt to express myself.  I never do the same thing twice (I can only say that because it really is impossible to do the SAME thing twice).  I may do something similar..very similar, but it always … Read More »
