1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting in New York in late 2010. I desperately needed to try something new, as I was starting to burn out of animation.

There are no quilters in my family, and I knew none growing up. New York is the center of the Art World but the periphery of the Quilting World, so I learned about quilting online. It wasn’t quilting in general that got me interested, it was free motion quilting. When I learned you could draw with a sewing machine, I had to … Read More »

1.When did you begin quilting?
My mom taught me to sew when I was a little girl, but I didn’t make my first quilt until 2009 when I was pregnant with my son.  I was immediately hooked and started making three quilts at the same time, because I couldn’t stop at just one. I often wish I had started quilting earier, when I still had lots of free time.

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because if I didn’t I would go crazy!  I love the creative outlet that designing a new quilt and choosing fabric combinations gives me.  Sewing the quilt together is relaxing.  I … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting when I lived in the Netherlands. In a nearby village there was (and still is) a beautiful quilt shop called De Dekenkist. They had the most wonderful window displays and I would always stop and stare but never dare to go in because I felt my Dutch wasn’t good enough. One day, feeling a bit more confident about my Dutch, I went in and had a look around. One of the assistants asked if she could help me, I replied back in Dutch and then she (recognising my accent) switched to … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting in 1990 and have been going full speed ever since.

2. Why do you quilt?
I make quilts for the joy of it.  I have always been creative.  Even as a child, I liked to make things.  I love the feel of fabric, the designs, the colors, the designs that can be created.  I am happy whether creating something original or following someone else’s design.  I love the joy of giving my handmade quilts as gifts and decorating my home with them.  I can’t ever see myself as having too many of them.

3. What is your favorite quilting … Read More »

 1. When did you begin quilting?
I’ve enjoyed sewing through much of my life–starting with Cabbage Patch doll clothes when I was a kid and various other projects.  I made my first quilt with my mom’s help when I was in college.  Although, I didn’t consider myself a quilter until just a few years ago.  We have three small children–a 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old twins. When our twins were about six months old, all three were on the … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
Must be about 15 years ago now.  I needed something for my bed and couldn’t find anything I liked, so I made my own.  Have been hooked ever since.

2. Why do you quilt?
Because I can’t stop :)  At first it was for decorating.  Then everyone had a quilt on their bed.  Then it was gifts, birthday’s, weddings, etc.  Hmm, everyone had a quilt.  It just became fun to create.  Now everyone has a couple of quilts and I do a lot of sewing for donation quilts, just trying to … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was eight, but she didn’t quilt at all, so I never really did any quilting until about two and a half years ago. That’s when a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer, and a group of us got together to make her a quilt. None of us were quilters, so it’s amazing that the quilt worked out at all, but it did! Our church’s quilt ministry was born with that quilt, although we … Read More »

1.   When did you begin quilting?
I have been quilting since about 1985,  and sewing since…let’s just say forever.   I took lots of classes, started a lot of projects, and finished too few of them because I thought they had to be perfect to be completed.  With age comes wisdom, they say, and for me the realization that it is better done than undone, perfect or not.  Life intervened and after a  4 year hiatus from sewing and quilting, I jumped back into it in 2000 and began completing UFOs.  It took 2 years but all of … Read More »

2. Why do you quilt?

There are so many reasons! I quilt because I love to create, and fabric is such a wonderful medium. Sewing helps keep me sane, and I love that the end result gives so much comfort. I also love to be surrounded by handmade things — they really make the house cosy.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

Measure twice, cut once. I wish I always remembered to do this.

4. What was your inspiration for your … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

My mother taught me to sew when I was a young girl, nearly (gasp) 35 years ago. I remember making pillows and helping her with things she was sewing.  When I was about 11 or 12, I designed a bed quilt, selected the fabrics, and then she put the quilt together.  When I was in high school, she and I made many of my … Read More »
