1. When did you begin quilting?

My mother taught me to sew when I was a young girl, nearly (gasp) 35 years ago. I remember making pillows and helping her with things she was sewing.  When I was about 11 or 12, I designed a bed quilt, selected the fabrics, and then she put the quilt together.  When I was in high school, she and I made many of my … Read More »

Hi friends! Today’s featured quilter is Flaun – Flaun was nominated in the Favorite Art Quilt category during the festival and blogs at I Plead Quilty. I love Flaun’s interview, and hope you enjoy getting to know her better!

1. When did you begin quilting?
I started quilting about 15 years ago, but had to let it sit by the wayside, being the busy working single mother of a little girl. She’s now my teen-aged sometime quilting companion – we like to watch shows and movies online while I sew, like Sherlock, Bones, and Glee. I picked quilting back up again in September of 2009 and haven’t looked back once.

2. Why do you quilt?
 Boy, that’s a good question.

Short answer: I HAVE to create something. If I’m not doing something creative, I get very depressed. The feeling I get when designing, deciding on fabric, sewing, … Read More »

Hi there! Today’s featured quilter is Mary, also known as, Mary on Lake Pulaski. Mary is always piecing a beautiful quilt and loves to share her cute grandkids on her blog too! I hope you enjoy getting to know Mary better -

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting about 30 years ago when my children were little.  A long break from anything creative took place while I worked and commuted since I was gone from home 12-13 hours a day.  I got back into quilting with a vengance once I retired six years ago.

2. Why do you quilt?

The reason I quilt is plain and simply because I love fabric.  I love the colors, the textures and the way they can change with combinations and different patterns.  It is just so fun to sit … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
I’ve been sewing on and off since I was a little girl, but my first quilt was about 7 years ago. I was newly married, about to embark on motherhood, and had the itch to create. I found some sale fabric at JoAnns and made a binding-free full sized quilt. Being an engineer, I … Read More »

Today’s featured quilter is Stacie! Stacie  blogs at NJStacie, and was nominated in the Favorite ROYGBIV Quilt category, and I think you will love learning more about Stacie, I did!

1. When did you begin quilting?

I think I made my first full-sized quilt in 2001 or 2002.  I had a bunch of fat quarters and an idea to make all Christmas presents.  I think the most daunting part of that project was machine-quilting it – I remember thinking about the logistics of it for ages before I actually put it through the machine.

2. Why do you quilt?

I find quilting to (usually) be very relaxing.  I love playing with color and pattern and seeing what happens – it’s great to see how different a quilt looks with a change of color, or by using a large, dominant pattern.  I’d like to tell … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting ?
Like many quilters I have sewn since I was a little girl. I was brought up with a Mum who was always sewing, dressmaking, knitting and crocheting so I was very influenced by her. My first love was hand embroidery and when I was 19 I was lucky enough to study at the Royal School of Needlework in London.  This was where I was introduced to patchwork and quilting. I dabbled a bit but did not start quilting seriously until about 13 years ago after I bought an Australian quilting book.

1. When did you begin quilting?
I have started probably in 2002, I like to make a baby quilt for my first baby girl. I used very old towel and spreadsheet. I used this quilt for all my kids and I wash it many times. I´m surprised this baby quilt  still stick together even it went through our ungentle usage. First time I used scissors and easy big pattern. We had a sewing machine from 70´s at home. My mum still use it.

2. Why do you quilt?
The main reason I start with quilting is to use all our older fabric, we … Read More »

Posted on July 6th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 8 comments

Hi friends!  Today’s featured quilter is Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl!  Amanda was the winner in the Favorite Wall Hanging category, read on to hear more about her cute quilt!

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began officially quilting when I was 24.  I had sewn all while growing up but I made my first quilt when I was expecting my first baby.  I bought a “baby quilts” book & I made almost every quilt in the book.  I never had any “real” quilt training – I just taught myself.

2. Why do you quilt?
I love the feeling of taking a pile of fabric & batting and turning it into “something”.  I LOVE the feeling I get when I sit down at the sewing machine and start sewing little bits of fabric together.  I LOVE fabric and all the possibilities.  Quilting just … Read More »

Featuring Sharon :: A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on June 29th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 13 comments

Today’s featured quilter is Sharon! Sharon was nominated in the doll quilt category, and her little quilt is adorable.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Sharon!

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting about 5 years ago.

2. Why do you quilt?
I started quilting because I became ‘medically’ retired after a near death car accident.  Home from re-hab and bored with all my cross stitch, I had a sewing machine and a few supplies set up so I could roll my wheel chair up and play.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
So many, but I am so grateful that I took a class long ago on how to ‘press’ properly.  Pressing properly not only gives assitance with smooth seams that help with assembling blocks, but elliminates a lot of ‘wonky’ – squaring up is a piece … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

One of my closest friends was having a baby in college and I had this crazy idea to make a baby blanket. I’d been sewing clothes and costumes for years so I thought “Pftt..I can make a flat blanket.” I picked an I Spy hexagon design. And I approached it all wrong. I tried cutting out the full hexagon shapes and sewing them in rows…it was horrible. So I gave up on quilts and went back to clothes. Fast forward to last spring, where I’d been doodling quilt patterns in my sketchbook because I was sick of making jackets. My mom … Read More »

Featuring Maria — A Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on April 27th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 5 comments

Hi all! Today’s featured quilter is Maria from Sew Love to Sew.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Maria better, I did!

1. When did you begin quilting?

I think it was in about 1995 when a quilt shop, Quilters Haven, opened locally. Quilting as a hobby was nowhere near as popular in the UK as it is now and there were very few quilt shops around. I did a beginner’s course at the shop and then joined an adult learning evening class in patchwork and quilting at a local school. I still meet with a group of friends from the course most weeks for an evening of sewing and of course chatting.

2. Why do you quilt?

I quilt due to a number of reasons. I love all the gorgeous fabrics that are available now, the colours and designs are … Read More »
