Featuring Stacie — A Blogger’s Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on July 27th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 4 comments

Today’s featured quilter is Stacie! Stacie  blogs at NJStacie, and was nominated in the Favorite ROYGBIV Quilt category, and I think you will love learning more about Stacie, I did!

1. When did you begin quilting?

I think I made my first full-sized quilt in 2001 or 2002.  I had a bunch of fat quarters and an idea to make all Christmas presents.  I think the most daunting part of that project was machine-quilting it – I remember thinking about the logistics of it for ages before I actually put it through the machine.

2. Why do you quilt?

I find quilting to (usually) be very relaxing.  I love playing with color and pattern and seeing what happens – it’s great to see how different a quilt looks with a change of color, or by using a large, dominant pattern.  I’d like to tell … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting ?
Like many quilters I have sewn since I was a little girl. I was brought up with a Mum who was always sewing, dressmaking, knitting and crocheting so I was very influenced by her. My first love was hand embroidery and when I was 19 I was lucky enough to study at the Royal School of Needlework in London.  This was where I was introduced to patchwork and quilting. I dabbled a bit but did not start quilting seriously until about 13 years ago after I bought an Australian quilting book.

1. When did you begin quilting?
I have started probably in 2002, I like to make a baby quilt for my first baby girl. I used very old towel and spreadsheet. I used this quilt for all my kids and I wash it many times. I´m surprised this baby quilt  still stick together even it went through our ungentle usage. First time I used scissors and easy big pattern. We had a sewing machine from 70´s at home. My mum still use it.

2. Why do you quilt?
The main reason I start with quilting is to use all our older fabric, we … Read More »

Hi friends!  Today’s featured quilter is Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl!  Amanda was the winner in the Favorite Wall Hanging category, read on to hear more about her cute quilt!

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began officially quilting when I was 24.  I had sewn all while growing up but I made my first quilt when I was expecting my first baby.  I bought a “baby quilts” book & I made almost every quilt in the book.  I never had any “real” quilt training – I just taught myself.

2. Why do you quilt?
I love the feeling of taking a pile of fabric & batting and turning it into “something”.  I LOVE the feeling I get when I sit down at the sewing machine and start sewing little bits of fabric together.  I LOVE fabric and all the possibilities.  Quilting just … Read More »

Today’s featured quilter is Sharon! Sharon was nominated in the doll quilt category, and her little quilt is adorable.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Sharon!

1. When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting about 5 years ago.

2. Why do you quilt?
I started quilting because I became ‘medically’ retired after a near death car accident.  Home from re-hab and bored with all my cross stitch, I had a sewing machine and a few supplies set up so I could roll my wheel chair up and play.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
So many, but I am so grateful that I took a class long ago on how to ‘press’ properly.  Pressing properly not only gives assitance with smooth seams that help with assembling blocks, but elliminates a lot of ‘wonky’ – squaring up is a piece … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

One of my closest friends was having a baby in college and I had this crazy idea to make a baby blanket. I’d been sewing clothes and costumes for years so I thought “Pftt..I can make a flat blanket.” I picked an I Spy hexagon design. And I approached it all wrong. I tried cutting out the full hexagon shapes and sewing them in rows…it was horrible. So I gave up on quilts and went back to clothes. Fast forward to last spring, where I’d been doodling quilt patterns in my sketchbook because I was sick of making jackets. My mom … Read More »

Hi all! Today’s featured quilter is Maria from Sew Love to Sew.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Maria better, I did!

1. When did you begin quilting?

I think it was in about 1995 when a quilt shop, Quilters Haven, opened locally. Quilting as a hobby was nowhere near as popular in the UK as it is now and there were very few quilt shops around. I did a beginner’s course at the shop and then joined an adult learning evening class in patchwork and quilting at a local school. I still meet with a group of friends from the course most weeks for an evening of sewing and of course chatting.

2. Why do you quilt?

I quilt due to a number of reasons. I love all the gorgeous fabrics that are available now, the colours and designs are … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

A couple of years ago, a gal at work purchased a new sewing machine and needed 4 people to take a quilting class so I said, sure! I took the class, and enjoyed it but then never really thought much about it. I was really frustrated that I had such a hard time with the binding and that may have scared me away too. Last fall, my DH (a hunter) was away every weekend in November and the bug just bit me! I set up shop in the kitchen, put my ironing board … Read More »

Featuring Michelle — A Bloggers Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on April 13th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 11 comments

So, today’s featured quilter is Michelle.  Michelle blogs at City House Studio, and her quilts are beautiful!  I hope you enjoy getting to know Michelle better –

1. When did you start quilting?
I started quilting about 15 yrs ago.  The summer I graduated from college, I decided that I needed/wanted to learn to quilt!  My mom and I went to JoAnn’s, bought a rotary cutter and a book about quilting, and tried to teach ourselves!  We actually cut out all the pieces for that quilt on my mom’s wooden cutting board, on her kitchen counter!

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because it makes me happy to create something beautiful.  Really happy if I get to spend a little part of each day creating!

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
I’m not sure I have a favorite quilting tip.  I feel like I’m … Read More »

Featuring Mary — A Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on April 6th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 5 comments

I was so glad to see that nearly everyone was excited about the changes I have dreamed up for Bloggers’ Quilt Festival!  I’m looking forward to getting to know what everyone loves in the community!
Today’s featured quilter is Mary from Lillian’s Stitches – Mary seems to always have a project in the works!  I hope you enjoy getting to know Mary better –

1.  When did you begin quilting?
I began quilting in 2007, but I ended up scrapping my first top and reusing the fabric for something more meaningful and, had I known it, more ambitious! Thus my first quilt is a cathedral window chuppah (wedding canopy) stitched entirely by hand. Each “window” is 1.5 inches square, and this was before the days I knew about rotary cutters! But it was a perfect introduction to quilting, and the fact that I made it … Read More »

Featuring Leila — A Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Quilter

Posted on March 23rd, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 10 comments

Happy Friday!  Today’s Featured Quilter is Leila – Leila blogs at Where the Orchids Grow, sharing her sewing and family life.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Leila better –

1. When did you begin quilting?

I have been sewing ever since I was a very little girl; I used to have an old Singer treadle in my bedroom and sewed dolls clothes on it with help from my mum of course.

I first started quilting when I was pregnant with my son. I made him two baby quilts. But my obsession with quilting came from discovering modern quilting online. I started my own blog and haven’t stopped ever since!

2. Why do you quilt?

Besides the more obvious reasons of loving all the pretty fabrics and designs I enjoy creating useful things. It makes me feel empowered to be … Read More »
