1. When did you begin quilting?
About 3 years ago, I sewed my first quilt just to try out a tutorial I found online. I thought, “I can do that.” I bought a Moda 1984 charm pack on eBay for less than $5 and used a disappearing 9-patch pattern, although I didn’t know what it was called back then. In true Lindsay fashion, I just tried to figure out the binding technique myself, rather than read directions anywhere, and it was certainly interesting. I ended up gifting it to a friend for her first baby, and the quilt has been well loved!

I have to do something with all … Read More »

 1. When did you begin quilting?

My mother always told me, “Don’t play with your food,” so I learned to play with fabric instead. I started making art quilts in 1998 and realized that I had finally found my passion. I had been knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and sewing my own clothes since I was a teenager, and the idea of creating art with fabric seemed to resonate with me right from the start. I love the unlimited color palettes, the … Read More »

1. When did you begin to quilt?

I took my first official quilting class in 1980. That was pre-rotary cutter days, when there was very, very little quilting fabric to choose from. One of our first projects to learn on was a log cabin block made entirely by hand by creating templates from cereal boxes and tracing around the shapes. We also hand quilted everything we made including an appliqued wallhanging framed inside an embroidery hoop. (I see that has become popular again!) I didn’t “decide” to become a quilter, though, until the 1990’s when my children were a little older and I moved to Kansas City. I thought joining a quilt guild … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting almost 3 years ago. Like lots of people I learned to sew in high school home ec classes. I made pajama pants and a pillow and that was it. I started sewing again when my mom got me a little singer machine for Christmas 3 1/2 years ago. 6 months into having the machine I started quilting and never looked back! I made quilts for some family members that Christmas and I didn’t trust myself (or my machine) to quilt it. So I handquilted 3 quilts in 3 1/2 months! Oh, did my fingers ever hurt! The next year I got my Brother and started machine quilting.

Hi all!  Today’s featured quilter is Marjorie!  Marjorie has  some fantastic quilts and great tips – I hope you enjoy getting to know Marjorie more!

1. When did you begin quilting?

In the late ’80’s, I went rock climbing with my oldest brother’s ex-girlfriend who offered to help me to sew a winter parka. Being easily distracted by bright shiny objects….I noticed the quilt projects she was working on, and the rest is history. I still have the parka, the first project and the girlfriend ( whom I normally introduce as my sister).

 2. Why do you quilt?

Because my painting sucks and I need a creative outlet. And I hate to be cold. This way I can sit under quilts both while and after I make them.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

Try every new trend and … Read More »

1.When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting in May 2010. I had been doing some basic sewing of kids’ clothes at that point, but was intimidated by choosing all those coordinating fabrics required for a quilt. My friend Kathy from Magnolia Designs was doing a wonderful charity to provide quilts for babies in our local Children’s Hospital NICU, and convinced me that if I could sew a dress, I could make a quilt. I committed to making 3 quilts for the cause- in gratitude for my 3 healthy children. I guess you could say I became smitten with the process, I haven’t stopped since!

2. Why do you quilt?
Because I need … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?

I made my first quilt with my grandma when I was 13, and I started quilting for keeps later on, about 14 years ago.

2. Why do you quilt?

I quilt because…I love it. I enjoy trying out different patterns and fabrics, and as a busy mom, I like doing something that is just for me. I like making things because they stay done and don’t have to be repeated (like all kinds of housework).

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

My favorite quilting tip–when you are sewing together long pieces, … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
2 1/2 years ago, I was pregnant for the first time.  I found myself really wanting a special quilt for my daughter.  I looked around for a pattern, hoping my mom could make a quilt, yet nothing really jumped out at me.  My hubby and I decided that we wanted a Charley Harper theme for her bedroom, and so that became the inspiration behind the quilt I knew I wanted for her room.  I took an applique class at a local store and from there I designed and created my very first quilt.  I’ve been quilting ever since.

1.  When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting in the late 80s. I had been married a few years and was about to start graduate school.  The Toronto school board had many interesting continuing education programs, and I thought that quilting sounded interesting.  I went into it thinking that quilting was all hand work, but when I found out you could use this new thing called a rotary cutter and do all your piecing and quilting on the machine, I was sold!  I bought the cheapest sewing machine I could find and wrestled a few bed-sized quilts through it.  The poor thing.  FMQ was a painful experience for us both, but I kept at it.  When my daughter was born in 1993, I pretty … Read More »

Happy Friday!  Today’s featured quilter is Abby – Abby blogs at Crafts by Abby, and I’m excited to share her quilts and interview with you here today —

1. When did you begin quilting?

I started quilting in 2006 when I was 26 years old. My great-grandmother had passed away and we found a gazillion little squares she had cut and the startings of a quilt. I decided I’d be the family member to learn how to quilt and finish it for her, and that’s just what I did. I found a little book that was aimed at teaching teens/tweens how to quilt and made a “practice” baby quilt for a friend. I learned everything else I know on the internet! It’s been a little out of control since then!

2. Why do you quilt?

I love … Read More »
