One more day before Bloggers’ Quilt Festival begins!  Are you ready?  I have a couple of posts to finish up!
Today I wanted to feature one more quilter from the Spring Festival – Felicity.  Felicity blogs at Felicity Quilts, and she has a few of her beautiful quilts to share with us today.  Enjoy –
1. When did you begin quilting?
I’d admired quilts for years but didn’t think I could ever make one. I began quilting in 2001, when I took a beginner’s class at a local quilt shop. It was my husband who encouraged me to take the class, and who later encouraged me to upgrade my sewing machine to the one I use now (a Bernina 145).

2. Why do you quilt?
I quilt because I love it, and because it’s the only art/craft I’m any good at! I love that it’s … Read More »

Hi friends!  With just one week left before Bloggers’ Quilt Festival, I’m excited to feature Colleen! Colleen is a local gal I’ve had the pleasure to meet and know, I hope you enjoy getting to know her better!
1. When did you begin quilting?

I really only started quilting about a year and a half ago, though I worked on tying many a quilt with my church group before that. When I was younger, you could never have convinced me that one day I would quilt for fun! When I was dating my one-day husband, I thought I’d impress him by making him a quilt for Christmas. It was an epic fail… that was before I knew anything about seam allowances or patterns. I made my own pattern, and when my blocks weren’t the same size, instead of trimming down I started … Read More »

Hi there!  I’m trying to get back to my usual schedule – it’s been a sleepy week around here!  Today’s featured quilter is Nicole – Nicole is a recent quilt addict.  I hope you enjoy getting to know Nicole better!
1. When did you begin quilting?
My quilting obsession began one year ago. My Godmother, and Mother quilt and they got me hooked. One quilt show is all it took for me to fall head over heals in love with quilting. I love the fact that you can take a piece of fabric and create anything your heart desires!

2. Why do you quilt?
Hmmm….Do I have to pick only one reason? I love every single part of quilting from picking out (and petting) fabrics to choosing or creating a design to putting the last stitch on the binding and breathing out a huge sense … Read More »

1.  When did you begin quilting?
I first got the “quilting bug” when I was off on maternity leave with my first daughter in 2008.  Between feedings, I liked to jump on my husband’s laptop and surf the internet as I was inspired to be creative given the birth of our baby!  I came across handmadebyalissa.com and carolinapatchworks.com.  Emily Cier had made this beautiful quilt which she called “Scrappy Circles” in Heather Bailey’s Fresh Cut line of fabric.  I was in love!  I had to have it!    Then “I had to have it” turned into “I have to make it!”
I … Read More »

1.  When did you begin quilting?

About 8 years ago, I became interested in quilting.  My sister, who has always been a fabulous seamstress and quilter, encouraged me to give it a try.  She suggested I try a 9-patch pattern from a magazine.  Little did I know that it was a challenging project for a newbie – the smallest 9-patch pieces finished to about … Read More »

1. When did you begin quilting?
About 3 years ago, I sewed my first quilt just to try out a tutorial I found online. I thought, “I can do that.” I bought a Moda 1984 charm pack on eBay for less than $5 and used a disappearing 9-patch pattern, although I didn’t know what it was called back then. In true Lindsay fashion, I just tried to figure out the binding technique myself, rather than read directions anywhere, and it was certainly interesting. I ended up gifting it to a friend for her first baby, and the quilt has been well loved!

2. Why do you quilt?
I have to do something with all … Read More »

 1. When did you begin quilting?

My mother always told me, “Don’t play with your food,” so I learned to play with fabric instead. I started making art quilts in 1998 and realized that I had finally found my passion. I had been knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and sewing my own clothes since I was a teenager, and the idea of creating art with fabric seemed to resonate with me right from the start. I love the unlimited color palettes, the … Read More »

Today’s featured quilter is Carla!  Carla blogs at Lollyquiltz, and seems to always have a project in the works!  I hope you enjoy getting to know Carla better —

1. When did you begin to quilt?

I took my first official quilting class in 1980. That was pre-rotary cutter days, when there was very, very little quilting fabric to choose from. One of our first projects to learn on was a log cabin block made entirely by hand by creating templates from cereal boxes and tracing around the shapes. We also hand quilted everything we made including an appliqued wallhanging framed inside an embroidery hoop. (I see that has become popular again!) I didn’t “decide” to become a quilter, though, until the 1990’s when my children were a little older and I moved to Kansas City. I thought joining a quilt guild … Read More »

Happy Friday!  Today’s featured quilter is Kristen!  Kristen blogs at KDQuilts, and I hope you enjoy getting to know her and her beautiful quilts better —

1. When did you begin quilting?

I began quilting almost 3 years ago. Like lots of people I learned to sew in high school home ec classes. I made pajama pants and a pillow and that was it. I started sewing again when my mom got me a little singer machine for Christmas 3 1/2 years ago. 6 months into having the machine I started quilting and never looked back! I made quilts for some family members that Christmas and I didn’t trust myself (or my machine) to quilt it. So I handquilted 3 quilts in 3 1/2 months! Oh, did my fingers ever hurt! The next year I got my Brother and started machine quilting.

2. Why do you quilt?

My whole life … Read More »

Featuring Marjorie — A Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Quilter!

Posted on July 29th, by Amy in Featured Quilter. 11 comments

Hi all!  Today’s featured quilter is Marjorie!  Marjorie has  some fantastic quilts and great tips – I hope you enjoy getting to know Marjorie more!

1. When did you begin quilting?

In the late ’80’s, I went rock climbing with my oldest brother’s ex-girlfriend who offered to help me to sew a winter parka. Being easily distracted by bright shiny objects….I noticed the quilt projects she was working on, and the rest is history. I still have the parka, the first project and the girlfriend ( whom I normally introduce as my sister).

 2. Why do you quilt?

Because my painting sucks and I need a creative outlet. And I hate to be cold. This way I can sit under quilts both while and after I make them.

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?

Try every new trend and … Read More »
