Weave :: Quilt Scene

Posted on December 4th, by Amy in finished quilt, Magazine/Featured. 5 comments

I have another finish to share! Weave is featured in Interweave’s annual issue, Quilt Scene.

Weave is a fun and simple – graphic quilt. I used my fabrics, Modern Neutrals, from a fat quarter bundle, and some extra yardage.

It was fun to make and quilt! Detail shot:

I quilted down the charcoal fabric with figure 8’s, this really made the rest of the piecing pop, and the pieces are big enough to show off the fabrics a little too.

If you haven’t seen Quilt Scene before – I highly recommend it! Along with projects and great articles, there’s also images of quilts from the International Quilt Festival. It’s truly inspirational and a valuable resource of information.

What are you stitching today?

Three Things (You want to check these out!)

#1A recently finished quilt is now gracing the cover of American Patchwork and Quilting! This issue is due to start showing up on newsstands today, but I know some of you have gotten it in your mailbox already.

The fabrics are Modern Neutrals (of course!) and I paired two traditional blocks for a unique “Layered Look”. I also quilted this myself, with pebbles in the light areas, and a few large petals in the flowering snowball blocks.

Here’s a flat shot of the quilt – Layered Look :

Just in case you want to make the quilt for yourself with my fabrics here’s a list with fabric names and sku’s

Scraps, Inc.

Posted on November 18th, by Amy in books, finished quilt. 9 comments

I’ve mentioned this new book a few times, but today I have pictures to accompany all that talk! Scraps, Inc. is full of amazing scrap quilts, that you want to make! There’s also tons of inspiring photography, and great diagrams to make sure you know exactly what to do next.

For me making a scrap quilt is a bit of a luxury, but always a favorite. I love the reminder of the past projects all sewn into one beautiful quilt top. My quilt included in the book is a collection of my favorite blocks, colors, and fabrics. My Favorite Things:

Star blocks make up the center, then I have four-patches, triangles, lots of log cabins, and churn dash blocks to finally frame the quilt top.

I happily used bits of fat quarters, and random charm packs that I have collected, along with all … Read More »

My Blogger’s Quilt Festival Entry :: Quill

Posted on October 30th, by Amy in Bloggers Quilt Festival, finished quilt, My Fabric. 19 comments

I’m excited to share a recent quilt that hasn’t made it to the blog yet! Quill is made in my Modern Neutral fabrics, and I loved making it and quilting it up.

I actually finished this one up just after Market last spring, and quickly shipped it off to be in Quilty. (It’s in the issue on newsstands now!)

Quill measures 56″ x 72″ and is made of just three LARGE blocks, then adding the solid on one side. I love the statement that it makes, and the simplicity of the quilt. I outlined the “diamond” shapes with quilting, then added in random straight lines from the center to the edge. All the texture in there is so comfy! Here’s a closer look :

I had found a bit of inspiration for this quilt, and had been obsessing over making it. I was … Read More »

Tone It Down – Finished Quilt!

Posted on June 16th, by Amy in finished quilt, quilt-along. 13 comments

My backstory on the Tone It Down Quilt Along – I started this quilt last fall, with the intention that it was for my father-in-law. He is around our house often, and sees all the quilts I make, in various stages of the process, always admiring. His regular line was – “You know; that would look great on my bed.”  I worked on this quilt while he was around too, but never indicated that it was for him. I had wanted to keep a surprise, and him not too disappointed when I had to set it on the back burner to meet a few deadlines.

Yesterday was his birthday, and Father’s Day – perfect day for a special quilt, made just for him. He’s been through a lot over the last few years, and it felt great to give him a gift … Read More »

Star-Crossed :: Complete & Gifted!

Posted on June 2nd, by Amy in finished quilt. 8 comments

Hi Friends! I’m still wrapping up details from Blogger’s Quilt Festival, but I’m really excited to show off a newly finished quilt too!

Last weekend this cute couple was married:

Zach is one of my husband’s younger brothers, I’ve known him since he was 8 or 9, and it has been great to get to know Erin over the last year since they started dating!

They had announced their engagement and wedding date in February, and I excitedly put together the quilt top, before my sample yardage arrived. I had fun selecting the fabrics (Botanique by Joel Dewberry) and pattern from one of my books (Modern Basics II) to make them a quilt, just for them.

The bright and saturated prints are perfect for them, incorporating some of their favorite colors, and one of my favorite quilt designs. Ignore the wrinkles – I had forgotten it in … Read More »

New Quilt Patterns!

It feels like it’s been a marathon of sewing for the last two months, but I’m excited to finally share my new patterns with you before I head off to Market!

I made these in my new fabric line – Modern Neutrals, which will be in stores in October 2014, until then – be creative! I had some help getting everything done from Mary, Melissa, Trish and Vicki – thank you ladies, I would be less sane without your help. ;)

I have patterns available for pre-order, or PDF patterns ready to go! Follow the links for details :

Up first is Soiree –

This graphic block is made from a Layer Cake, and really shows off all the prints in the collection – plus it’s super fast!

Charm Pack Cherry – from Fat Quarter Shop

Posted on February 24th, by Amy in finished quilt, review. 13 comments

Hi there! I’m excited to be part of the release of Fat Quarter Shop’s newest FREE pattern – Charm Pack Cherry!  It’s a fun, quick pattern for all those charm packs, we all seem to collect.  I pieced my sample in just an hour or so – it’s that quick!

I started with Surrounded by Love charms, and solid charms followed the simple diagrams, and had fun stitching up this cute quilt! It’s a first for me – I’d not made a valentine’s quilt before.  I machine quilted it with some double loops, swirls, and a few experimental feathers; I’m still having fun trying new things out on the long-arm!

There were a few extra charms after piecing the top, so I worked them into a corner of the back, that I plan to use as … Read More »

Wedding Quilt & Our Trip

Posted on September 27th, by Amy in finished quilt, My kids. 12 comments

Hi there! I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts and post all week, and couldn’t quite get it together – so it waited. I hope you all have had a great week! I took the time (FINALLY!) to do some website maintenance, which didn’t take as long as I had imagined, and why I had put it off for so long. If you can’t find something specific, drop me a note and I’ll see if we can find it :) Part of the reason for the updates is Blogger’s Quilt Festival is coming –

I’ve added the code for you to grab in the sidebar, add it to your sidebar or next post, and spread the word! It’s going to be great :)

I’ve been secretly working on this quilt the last few months, for my sister-in-law, Jenna, … Read More »

Formation

Posted on August 13th, by Amy in Baby Lock, finished quilt, Long Arm Quilting. 15 comments

This quilt has been in the works since April, I think! It’s fairly simple, and was pieced quickly, but I wanted to build my confidence before I loaded it on the long-arm. Looking at it now, I’m glad I waited a bit!

I call it “Formation”, as I’m reminded of a flock of geese as I look at it, and the traditional name for the triangles is “flying geese” – fits right!?

This is the first of many projects for Baby Lock over the next few years – I will let you know when a pattern is available on their site.

I was initially inspired by Emily’s fabric – Technicolor is a fun and vibrant collection, and one of the prints is groupings of triangles. You can see it in my quilt if you look close. Then when quilting it, I took my … Read More »

New Books!

Posted on July 23rd, by Amy in books, finished quilt. 3 comments

Hi there! Last week I had a couple of fun packages from my publisher! Set the Table is a collection of beautiful table runners –

My project is Spring Blooms -

like all of the projects in the book, it’s a great way to add a pop of color to any tabletop.

Also, The Big Book of Baby Quilts – this is a compilation of baby quilts from previous publications. There’s 288 pages full of patterns, including my own Posie Patch.

Posie Patch is the cover quilt for Modern Basics.  There’s quilts for all skill levels and everyone is a manageable size!

Both Set the Table and The Big Book of Baby Quilts are great additions to your quilt library!

Let me know if you pick either of these up -

Modern Neutrals :: Whispered Lace

Posted on June 27th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Neutrals. 35 comments

Whispered Lace is the cover quilt for Modern Neutrals, and I think is a great example of the rest of the book.  I had a great time mixing neutral color palettes to create a beautiful quilt!

Whispered Lace :

Whispered Lace measures 96″ x 96″.

Pieced by me – on my Baby Lock Melody.

Quilted by Natalia Bonner – with all the quilts in Modern Neutrals, I asked Natalia to keep it simple, no frills, and I love the results!

Fabrics used in Modern Neutrals were supplied by AdornIt, Andover, Cloud 9, Dear Stella, Moda, Riley Blake,Robert Kaufman, and Windham – Many thanks to my friends at each of these companies. I shared about my fabric selection and classification process in this post.

—–

Just this week, I switched out quilts on our bed, and actually put it on the bed! Usually the quilts are busy promoting the book, but this one is too large to ship to often, … Read More »
