Modern Mini Challenge

Posted on March 5th, by Amy in finished quilt. 14 comments

I am squeaking in at the deadline for the Modern Mini Challenge with Ellison Lane Quilts.  I shared a few inspiration pieces almost a month ago with the blog hop, and promised myself I would participate.

Yay for a quick finish today!  I’ve worked on this project a little here and a little there.  Today it just needed the binding :)

The piecing is improvised from left over bits from a cutting mishap.

It measures 36″ x 23″, and quilted with simple straight lines, in a brilliant turquoise thread.

Fabrics are Moda Crossweaves.

The challenge of this quilt, was quilting through 5 layers of batting.  I’ve been wanting to make a cushy rug for my kitchen floor for sometime, and finally collected enough batting scraps to do it right!

Girls In The Garden Blog Hop

Posted on February 24th, by Amy in finished quilt, give away, Inspiration. 213 comments

Hi there!  I’ve been teasing you all week with my applique project, and it is finished and ready to share!  Pat invited five of us to put our own spin on one of her new Girls in the Garden patterns for Bigfork Bay Cotton Company.  I had so much fun selecting a pattern and then all the fabrics to work with!  Actually, I could only narrow it down to two patterns, and I had to ask one of my girls which she liked better.  She helped me decide on Amelia’s Spring Delight:

Selecting fabrics – I would usually lean toward solids in place of batiks, since I haven’t stashed those, yet. However, I forced myself to look closer at my prints, and  select a few favorite prints to work with.  I think all the prints make it … Read More »

Graduation Workshop and Finished Quilt!

Posted on November 29th, by Amy in craftsy, finished quilt, Modern Basics. 34 comments

Graduation is one of the quilts from Modern Basics – I love the proportions of it, and the LACK of blocks.  It makes for a fast quilt, and great for a beginner!

I re-made Graduation, and took lots of pictures to offer it as a workshop over at Craftsy.com.

Are you familiar with Craftsy yet?  They have a great site, and a great community growing around the classes and workshops being offered.  You should run over there and make yourself an account!  The Workshop section has detailed, online patterns and the Graduation workshop includes a pdf download straight from Modern Basics.

Of course, I shared some of my organization tips for quilting.  Since I sew at the kitchen table, I cannot leave pieces out, and expect them to have … Read More »

Dizzy Kitchen

Posted on October 28th, by Amy in finished quilt. 76 comments

I’ve been dying to share this quilt with all of you, but was asked to keep images off-line until the line is/was released.  Yay – I can finally share!

I was contacted by Blend Fabrics last month, and after a series of emails, fabric landed on my doorstep for a quilt for their booth at Market.

The collection is called Kitchy Kitchen, and I love the bold colors, and graphic prints.  The lemon/lime wedges, kitchen utensils that pop on pink, and all the veggies on navy are so fun!  I enjoyed piecing this one, and look forward to seeing more great prints from Blend.

I used one block, and alternated the colors/fabrics to show off the fabrics, and create the dizzy pattern.  It measures 45″ x 54, and each … Read More »

Pocket Pixies Baby Quilt

Posted on August 30th, by Amy in embroidery, finished quilt. 11 comments

A quick finish for a sweet new baby!

I actually haven’t met her, but I assume she’s sweet, she’s a baby girl!

I added her name and birthday in embroidery, and couldn’t resist tracing the fabric in thread.

I bound it by machine, so it can be used and washed again and again.  And generally had fun working with these sweet fabrics!

The quilting is random, and whimsical just like all the fabrics in the quilt.  I backed it with Kona Amethyst, and used three strands of rose floss for the embroidery.

I think my favorite part is the embroidery – what’s yours?

Doll Quilt Swap – Sent!

Posted on August 17th, by Amy in Doll Quilt Swap, finished quilt. 19 comments

Hi there!  Here’s the final look at my Doll Quilt Swap –

It measures 16″ overall, with each star measuring just 4 inches!  I used a variety of  green fabrics set off by Kona ash, and white.

On the back you can see my quilting a bit more.  I followed the lines I marked, and went around the center square a couple times to get all the “arms” of the windmill quilted.    I was so glad to see it come together so well!

I’m thinking up a larger version of this block/quilt – maybe it cold be a fun quilt along!?  Anyone want to practice paper piecing?  I need to get my kids back to school, but it might be a fun fall/winter project working with scraps.  What do you think?

Modern Basics :: Quilts

Posted on March 7th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Basics. 32 comments

I found a sunny day at last, and had an hour to spare outside with my quilts!

All 14 of them is a lot to carry, and get hung, but I’m so glad that I did.

Did you notice the new header?

This is a picture heavy post!  I thought I would share the name and a detail or two for each quilt.

Basic Ease ~ One block turned – great first project!

There’s so many more pictures that I could share with you!  All of the quilting was done by Natalia, and it’s fantastic!  Natalia quilts via the mail too (hint, hint!) if you ever need something quilted by a pro.

If you did not win a copy of Modern Basics last week during the tour, I have a few autographed … Read More »
