Modern Basics II :: Blitz!

Posted on February 25th, by Amy in give away, Modern Basics. 9 comments

Hi there! I’m excited to have a few friends share about my new book today!

Modern Basics II was written as a follow up for Modern Basics – clever, huh?

I wanted to guide more quilters on their own path to finding creative therapy, no matter how busy or inexperienced they are at quilting. I often talk with people who don’t quilt, or don’t have time to quilt, and I always encourage them to find a few minutes each day or week, to learn something new, or just play with fabric. This group of patterns is geared for the new and confident quilters, with a bit of a challenge mixed in!

Modern Basics II :: To The Point

Posted on February 15th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Basics. 2 comments

To The Point graces the cover of Modern Basics II- It’s two color variations of the same block, twisted and turned to make a dramatic secondary pattern.  The dynamics of the patterns look great in small scale prints as well – I can’t wait to see your version!

Modern Basics II :: Zipped Path

Zipped Path was almost a black and white quilt, but I found these beautiful prints by Dear Stella and knew the direction to take the quilt!  Using a variety of fabrics of similar tones results in a calming quilt,  and it’s fun to make.

Modern Basics II :: Modern Cross-Stitch

Modern Cross-Stitch is a simple, graphic design.  I love texture and the feel of the Cross Weave fabrics, they tend to be a bit thicker than most quilting cottons and they quilt up beautifully.  Of course this would be stunning in prints as well – what would you use?

Modern Basics II :: Confetti Crossings

Posted on February 12th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Basics. 3 comments

Confetti Crossings is a simple two block quilt, made with half-square triangles in contrasting prints, and a simple 16-patch.  In the book I include directions for making 8 hst units at one time, or cutting directions if you are using a Go! Cutter like me! Whenever I make more than a few hst units, I pull out the Go! and I’m never disappointed – one quick tip, if you are having difficulty with a few threads sticking to the die, it might be time for a new cutting mat.  It can make a world of difference!

Modern Basics II :: Color Waves

Posted on February 11th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Basics. 6 comments

Color Waves never fails to catch an eye – it is made with Kaufman’s Radiance collection of silk/cotton blend fabrics.  They are beautiful to sew with, and result in a beautiful quilt!  Sophia keeps claiming it for her bed, and I tell her she can’t have it yet.  Maybe I should make her one, but I’m not sure she needs another quilt!
