Modern Basics II :: Star-Crossed

Posted on February 7th, by Amy in finished quilt, Modern Basics. 6 comments

This is one of many current favorites, right now!  I love the negative space created in Star-Crossed, and the quilting in those spaces.

Star-Crossed measures 60″ x 75″

Designed and pieced by me with my Baby Lock Melody

Quilted by Natalia Bonner

Fabrics are Boho from Annette Tatum

Instructions for a baby quilt is included in the book

I love the versatility of this quilt, I attempted to sketch some different color/fabric combo’s but had a bit of trouble with EQ and a virus.  I’ll have to put in a little homework on that issue!  Anyway, use your imagination – what would you do?

Hi there!  Yesterday my book released – at last!  Joe and I celebrated with a special lunch, while most of our kiddos were in school.  Owen was a trooper, while we traipsed around town.  My copies of Modern Basics II are on the way, and I will ship autographed copies the day after I receive them (Hopefully by Saturday!).

In other news, Dancing Stars blocks have started popping up on flickr and instagram!

Nearly 600 people have downloaded the Dancing Stars pattern – I can’t wait to see all your variations!  If selecting fabrics is overwhelming to you, I’m working on a couple of kit options with great shops, and templates will be available soon, if you prefer not to paper piece.  I’ll have details for you shortly!

Of course January starts off with the release of Modern Basics II!

The follow up to my first book, offers skill builders, and simply fun quilts to add to your “must-make list”. I’m really proud of the final product, and look forward to sharing it with you!  I’m hoping to make some/all of the quilts again, and show how versatile they can be. I’ll keep you posted, I need a few more hours in my day already!

Holiday Wish List for Quilters

Posted on December 6th, by Amy in give away, Inspiration, Modern Basics. 150 comments

Do you make a list for the people shopping for your holiday gifts?  I have one in my head, but haven’t given it to Joe yet.  (I should do that!)  I thought today I would share a few ideas, some of my favorite notions and places to shop.  Read on for ideas, and a giveaway!

1.  Warm & Natural is my go-to batting!  And I can never have enough – add a pre-packaged batting to your list, it’s easy to wrap and get under the tree.

2. Lapel Stick, this special glue stick, is so handy!  Use it in place of pins when adding a zipper, or teaching your kids to sew.  Makes a great stocking stuffer too!  It’s original design is to quickly fix a hem, or keep the pesky strap in place.

3. Aurifil 50 … Read More »

Graduation Workshop and Finished Quilt!

Posted on November 29th, by Amy in craftsy, finished quilt, Modern Basics. 34 comments

Graduation is one of the quilts from Modern Basics – I love the proportions of it, and the LACK of blocks.  It makes for a fast quilt, and great for a beginner!

I re-made Graduation, and took lots of pictures to offer it as a workshop over at Craftsy.com.

Are you familiar with Craftsy yet?  They have a great site, and a great community growing around the classes and workshops being offered.  You should run over there and make yourself an account!  The Workshop section has detailed, online patterns and the Graduation workshop includes a pdf download straight from Modern Basics.

Of course, I shared some of my organization tips for quilting.  Since I sew at the kitchen table, I cannot leave pieces out, and expect them to have … Read More »
