Or

slowly gather gifts over the course of months?

Overload!

Posted on May 16th, by Amy in Bloggers Quilt Festival, Modern Basics. 16 comments

Oh my goodness!  How many of the quilts have you had a chance to look through?  I know some of you were flustered on Friday with the blogger outage, hopefully everything has been restored for you!  It made me glad that I had moved to a wordpress blog – because I did not need one more thing to stress about last week!  I need to catch up with hundreds of emails, and begin processing my Market experience.  Such an overload of quilting people and friends, and networking opportunities for The Sewing Summit!

Here’s a quick picture from my schoolhouse – which went great – thankfully!  Never mind my funny face, I’m talking.

I had so much fun talking with anyone and everyone about Modern Basics!   This is me signing books for people waiting … Read More »

More Preparations for Quilt Market

Posted on May 4th, by Amy in Modern Basics, sewing. 13 comments

In preparing for my first Market experience, and promoting Modern Basics, I’ve got a few things to get together this week!

Monday afternoon I picked up my quilts that had been hanging at Seasons of Home last month.  Then yesterday I added all the labels and sewed two sleeves, for the quilt that will be hanging in Martingale’s booth (#1200).  I’ll finish the hand-stitching over the course of the next few evenings.  I even packed the ready quilts into suitcases, so I don’t have to refold, or take the time to do it later!  Why do it later, when I can do it now?

If you will be at Market my scheduled events include:

Thursday Schoolhouse – 4:20pm

Saturday Book Signing – 10:00am

Sunday Book Signing – 10:00am

Beyond that…tweet … Read More »

Six thousand, five hundred, and fifty-one!

Posted on May 3rd, by Amy in Modern Basics. 28 comments

What does that number mean?

The number of times, I tell my kids to stop running in the house each week?

Or

The number of times I leave my house over the course of the month, as I go to and from school?

Nope!

It’s the number of copies of my book that sold in the first two months!!

A sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to those of you that have already bought books and have sought them out in your local communities. I am so grateful to be a part of this supportive community!

If you haven’t gotten your copy of Modern Basics yet I have a couple signed copies available here, or ask your local quilt shop to get it in stock!  My local shop, Seasons of … Read More »

Posie Patch – All Gussied Up!

Posted on April 25th, by Amy in Modern Basics. 3 comments

I hope you had a great Easter weekend!  We enjoyed time with family and friends, and were blessed!

I also, took a bit of time to get my quilt “Posie Patch”, from the cover of my book, ready to hang at the Home Machine Quilt Show (HMQS) in a couple weeks.  If you are local to Salt Lake, and have a bit of free time – you should visit!  (There’s a $1 off coupon for admission on their site too.)

I added a quilt sleeve (my first!) to the back.

And installed the first of my labels!

I used Steam a Seam to quickly added it to the back.

And now, it’s all set!  HMQS is May 5-7, at South Towne Expo Center.  Seasons of Home will be there with new … Read More »

Quilt Labels!

Posted on April 21st, by Amy in Modern Basics. 26 comments

After procrastinating and researching label options for all the quilts in my book, I decided to go to Spoonflower!  When I was originally making the quilts, I wasn’t able to label them, as the title of my book wasn’t confirmed.  So I sent them off to Martingale with no permanent labels.  Now with Market around the corner, labels are necessary!

These will be getting some fusible webbing over the weekend and attached to the appropriate quilt.

I will definitely be going back to print more labels in the future.  Simple and great looking!

Happy Quilting ~

Amy

The Quilting Book Club

Posted on April 19th, by Amy in Modern Basics. 8 comments

Recently, I was contacted by Shawna at 1 Choice 4 Quilting, about making quilts as a group from Modern Basics.  What a great idea!

[adrotate banner="16"]

Click the graphic to find out how to get involved!

There is no cost to participate, just get a book and find the fabrics that you want to use, or grab a kit here! The Quilt Book Club will use one book for 4-6 months, each month will be a new pattern, and you are welcome to join for just one month, or make one every month!  It’s up to you!

Shawna has a flickr group set up to show off your quilts in progress, and learn from each other as you sew.  Of course, since the group is starting with Modern Basics, I will be checking in … Read More »

Posted on April 11th, by Amy in Modern Basics. 17 comments

Hi there!  I hope you all had a great weekend, with spring break this week, ours has been very relaxed!

Saturday afternoon, I spent at Seasons of Home, meeting and chatting with fellow quilters, and fabric lovers.  It was fun!

Natalia took a few pictures for us:

I’m talking in all these, so my expressions are pretty funny!

It was great to show off the quilts again!

Questions and answers about the quilts and how I ended up writing a book.

There were more quilts hanging around the shop too :

The shop is in a historic home, and a tight fit!
