Getting There

Posted on August 20th, by Amy in Doll Quilt Swap, work in progress. 24 comments

Hi there! Just a quick post to check in with all of you. This has been one of those weeks – you know the kind. When nothing is normal, and finding motivation is a challenge. Little Sophia seems to have a flu bug, and is currently asleep on the couch. I’m praying that it doesn’t spread – say a little prayer for me too – k?

Yesterday I finished up my DQS7 quilt top – I really like it! Now to decide how to quilt.

Also from the list, the sample bag is half complete, and I’m half way around Sophia’s quilt binding. I think I will go sit for a bit more with it now.

Many blessings to you today ~Amy—————————————-

A To Do List & Drama

Posted on August 18th, by Amy in My kids, work in progress. 24 comments

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to complete the survey – lots of great info there, and it is helping to get me even more excited for the Fall Quilt Festival! If you haven’t done it yet – I would love to have your input too!

Our weekend was a little dramatic – on Sunday our Emmalie was spinning on her foot in the kitchen, with a cup in hand, when she slipped and fell – face first. It happened so fast! She was in immediate pain, and bleeding, I was the one dressed so we scooped her up and ran to the hospital. Thankfully it is just 5 minutes away. In the end she has 4 stitches on her bottom lip and chin – but owie! That is a painful spot … Read More »

The Quilted Quilt

Posted on August 14th, by Amy in finished quilt, quilt-along, work in progress. 61 comments

Usually I wait until I have bound and washed a quilt to post, but this quilting was so inspired and I love it! I had actually thought I would be selling this quilt, as my girls are no longer babies (and I’m not having more!). BUT, Sophia claimed it, we “tried it on” her, and after all the quilting I’ve grown pretty attached to it. It will be staying here! Even Joe mentioned it would be a little sad to sell it since I’ve put so much effort/time into it!

Here it is – do you see my addition?

There’s a heart, stippled right there -There’s a bit of puckering on one side of the heart – if I do it again I would do the heart first. Live and learn :) I’m hoping it … Read More »

The Quilting Process

Posted on August 11th, by Amy in work in progress. 17 comments

For me, I like to try things that may be a little unexpected. Go with the flow to a point, but then add my individual point of view that makes it my own. What about you?

I’ve been quilting my zig-zag quilt – and I love it so far! Of course there’s a twist, but I’m going to save it for when the quilting is complete :) I’m really looking forward to showing you!

Also on my mind – Fall Quilt Festival! Need to get a few things lined up in my head, but I’m looking forward to that too. I’m amazed at how many people are daily looking through the links from the spring. Lots of great inspiration!

Blessings to you ~Amy—————————————-

Zig-Zag Quilt Top

Posted on August 5th, by Amy in work in progress. 54 comments

Hi there! Did you miss me? I’m still here, I needed to catch up on a few things and I wanted to finish my zig-zag to show you!

I like this one a lot – super girlie and really fun! I did learn a few things making this one, when working with half-square triangles (hst’s) I prefer to press open. Also, explaining the process via words and pictures is a lot of fun. (I made a pdf with some handy information on it if you are thinking about a zig-zag – you can download it here.) Working with the smaller size was a nice change from my last finish too!

In other news — Today is Joe’s birthday! We are having a little celebration here at the house with brat’s and a curry potato salad (a … Read More »

What are you working on?

Posted on May 18th, by Amy in work in progress. 13 comments

After a week full of everything but sewing, I’m ready to relax with my sewing machine! We had a great visit with my parents, the girls were especially sad to see them go, but promises of phone calls and more visits have helped.

Yesterday Joe had a day off finally – and we headed for the hills! Well the mountains, really. We headed to Timpanogos for a family hike. We’ve collected two backpack carriers for such occasions, Owen and Sophia were happy to be on our backs and not on the path! There’s tons of trails up there, many still covered in snow, but about a mile in is a beautiful waterfall, bursting with all the melt-off of spring. Wish I had a little camera to have captured it, but sometimes the hike makes … Read More »

Simplicity

Posted on May 1st, by Amy in work in progress. 35 comments

I’ve been working on a simple project, and finished the top up last night. I love that this is another project straight from my sketchbook – I also love the Wonderland fabrics! So fun and bright :)

I need to get some batting for it, hopefully today, and I think the quilting will really make this quilt. I am developing my personal philosophy of quilting — Quilts do not to be a complicated pattern to be a beautiful and well loved quilt. I do love lots of complicated patterns, like this, but realize that I would rather be able to finish it than work on it for a year :)

What sort of quilts are your favorite? I have been exposed to so many beauties with our recent festival – truly awed by what some of you … Read More »

DQS6 Sneak Peek

Posted on April 9th, by Amy in Doll Quilt Swap, work in progress. 23 comments

This week of Spring Break has been great! No schedule, except for Owen’s naps – don’t want to mess that up :) We started the week with sunshine, however yesterday and today have been WINDY and rainy. Just as well, the colds have been going around with the kiddos – Owen and Emmalie are really congested, and Sophia still has a cough from last weeks ear infection. Just the way this month has gone! I’m so thankful that they are healthy otherwise.

I took all the kids to the dentist this morning – not to bad really! Ella and Em got the full cleaning treatment, while Sophia and Owen sat/laid on my lap while they got checked out. So now Owen is down for a late nap, and I am doing my best to … Read More »

There’s a huge blog party going on! The ladies at 5 minutes for mom are hosting and over 700 bloggers are participating so far. There’s tons of giveaways and fun stuff going on. If you came from over there – Welcome!

A couple of my favorite posts about my kids are :MommyhoodIt Smells so Goooood in Here! One Day at a Time

When my lovely little people give me time to create I do my best to jam as much as possible in!

I was asked to create the boy version of a quilt in my etsy shop recently -I had two hours this afternoon :) After running Emmalie to the DR office for immunizations (we are getting ready for Kindergarten reg. next week), and stopping at the grocery store for the weeks dinners – I was in need of … Read More »
